Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Yes that's a little worrying and doesn't inspire much hope.
It certainly is worrying, but I think that the fact that the club captain is publicly acknowledging it suggests that something will be done about it. A few home truths may need to be revealed.

Ultimately, however, I think that the buck stops with Pep and his change of tactics to a more cautious and laboured build-up. It's clearly not working as the goals have dried up but we continue to concede.

I don't think we're a million miles away from being at a good level (Chelsea in the cup proved that), but an odd tweak and change of mentality might be needed by Pep and the players.

Don't wake up calls arrive between 6 & 8am depending on a person's profession. By 8pm when the game kicks off you'd think the City players would be wide awake. It sounds like the game was thrown. I think it's time to give the academy boys this competition from the 1st game to the last regardless of the outcomes.

Gundogan: “The desire and hunger is not as in recent years”

That’s a pretty big admission. This is where Fernandinho would gather the squad together and crack some skulls. Who’s doing that this time? Gundo is the fucking club captain and he’s seemingly just hoping blindly that we’ll rediscover it. Yeah, we’re fucked.

He actually told the truth, and truth be told this is the last tilt with this squad especially in midfield at 3 Premier League titles in a row, and 5 in 6 years. Him, Kev and Bernardo look like their running into the end of their run together. And the midfield needs refreshing over the summer window.

It's been trophy laden and still can be this season but as with all dynasties they do end, and someone younger and hungrier generally comes after the crown. We have that now with Arsenal, we saw off Liverpool and their threat over the past few seasons and title races to win but this season is a bigger battle again. We have players especially key players like De Bruyne who are getting on, same with Gundogan and you watch the performances this season they look leggy and weary at times.

We have replaced Aguero with Haaland, Kompany with Dias, and a few more pieces but now it's Kev, Gundo, Walker is getting on and others and you can see they're fighting for motivation and at times father time itself. The replacements are there but they need to step up. Foden especially for one if he wants the central role he covets he has to step up and seize it. He has the talent and the spot is their for him. Grealish has his chance he has to take it.

It's no excuse for last night's performance and the Brentford one & the Everton game but the reality of the game is eventually our dynasty will end and we'll have to start building the next one.

Once again players given a chance to shine haven't taken the opportunity .
Phillips & Gomez are not good enough to play in a city shirt & should be moved on in the summer .
I also think we should move Grealish on if he cannot hit the heights expected of him .
I am glad Gundo has given an honest opinion instead of making excuses .
I think Pg & the players need to listen to them comments & take them on board .
Its not the end of the world ,hopefully just a wake up call .
Congratulations to southampton they deserved to win the game.

My 5 year old son woke early this morning and asked the score. I told him we had lost and were out…….he cried.
I told him, don’t worry, I felt like crying last night having watched that !
