Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Worst performance for 15 years.

None of the basics being done.

It got that bad we couldn’t even take legal throw ins.

Next few league games are against high end opposition and will definitely shape where the title ends up.

Time to shape the fuck up.
Stoke away in 2015/16 when we lost 2-0 and Arnatovich ripped us a new one was still the worst, followed by 2013 FA Cup final

i feel like the experimentation thing is hindering us a little in terms of performances not so much results. our best performance this season have come when weve stuck to basics. I get why peps having to do the 3 at the back stuff and inverted full back with the form of cancelo being an issue.
i think 3 at the back isn`t the problem...the issue is we play this system with 3 CB instead of 2CB/1WB..it`s too defensiv especially with 2 goals behind

Totally agree watching on tv the few first seconds I wasn’t sure which team was which.
Had to switch to "sports mode" which on my LG is hideously garish so I could differentiate the two teams. Had I waited of course I could have done the same by looking who actually wanted to play football......

A poor performance and off the pace from the first minute. So evident when Rodri does not play that the team dynamics just do not function anything like it needs to. A real worry if he was to get injured.

Phillips looked lost and got bullied by more eager Southampton players. Gomez was positionally poor throughout the first half. Only Grealish seem to be interested and he got took off !

Disappointing to have travelled and see the team not really interested No sense of urgency or desire. Ortega was as slow with the distribution as their keeper was intentionally doing.

Last nights performance was very dissappointing but we've seen this sort of thing previously.
Pep has got to give the fringe players opportunities to show what they have got.
Someone like Philips had a great opportunity but blew it completely.
Cole Palmer has looked good as a sub coming on in games where we have dominated, he had a chance to influence the game from the start and was found wanting.
This was a necessary step, dissappointing as it was.
I felt a bit for Gundo in that first half, he was constantly under pressure without a pass because Philips was hiding. Pep will have noticed stuff like that.
He's not on his own but Philips might be on thin ice.
Cancelo has been poor all year tbh and probably needs a few games back at LB to play himself back to form.

An injury to Rodri would derail our entire season.

Usually in the middle of a 20 game undefeated streak at this stage though not losing to Brentford and Southampton and drawing at home with the worst Everton side in football history.

The season is not even halfway through and plenty of big games are not that far away, They will come think and fast from now on, So do we need 2 more games vs Newcastle or United, Painful loss last night, but we go again at the weekend,

He doesn't like other strong voices - even in his technical area. He looked as though he'd eaten a shit butty when Delph had the temerity to vent in that documentary.
That is true but the interesting thing was that he let Delph vent. He went quiet and let it happen. He's a clever guy Pep and he will have been analysing what Delph's intervention meant and how it affected the group.
