Southampton (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Brilliant result from a tricky away match which has caused us grief in the past. Southampton are playing better than their league position suggests, but unless they get a goal scoring striker, they'll be in perpetual trouble. I've seen a few worse teams than them in the PL this season.

We started steadily & took early control of the match, albeit the chances we were creating were few & far between. Haaland barely had a sniff & Stones was a lot more errant this week, as opposed to being close to perfection last week.

Personally, I'd have started with Alvarez & brought on the Viking on 60 minutes, but all's well that ends well. It was good to see Pep make the Stones change when it became obvious Southampton's press & pressure was causing us problems.

Luckily Haaland scored on the stroke of halftime to steady our nerves. Second half we came out much the same, but goals 2 & 3 seemed to knock the stuffing out of them. They briefly rallied when they pulled one back, but 2 minutes later we restored our 3 goal advantage.

Haaland's overhead kick was superb & we could see it flying in from when he started to shape up for the bicycle kick.

Grealish was superb again, as was Gundog who quietly & efficiently kept everything ticking over, but my MoTM was KDB! His return to form has coincided with our upturn in form, & I pray we haven't got into our stride too late.

We must also find a place for Alvarez! This kid is something special, & we're blessed to have two incredible & young strikers.

Well done to the players & coaching staff, & roll on Tuesday against the mighty Bayern Munich...

Southampton manager tactics with us at three at the back. Hence why Pep went to Kyle and four at the back. Tactics.
