Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

QQ. How many corners did we have today? Every last one of them was really poor. We all know we do not use corners well but it’s a real blind spot. Do we work on them ever or has it always just let Kev float it to the keeper?!

I’m more worried about pep’s performance than the teams, we know we are old and shite at times but nothings changed all season, that’s not very reassuring for next season.
Where are the players we bought in January
Why are they not playing because there’s no way they could be worse than this.

The selection is baffling me.
This game was more important than the cup final. He played such a conservative line up that I can only think he has begun to over-think his tactics while disregarding the oppositions obvious tactics of crowding the penalty area.
Hindsight is always clear, but I predicted a tough game after the line up was announced.
How was that starting line-up going to break down an 11 man defensive shield?

Absolutely unacceptable performance.

Same players who've let us down all season, underperformed again.

Old, slow, dull and boring.
If I'd travelled down there I'd want my money back.
Something is SERIOUSLY wrong in the background, and I'm not ecstatic about Erlings ""We haven't had fully the hunger inside of us".
If Pep can't get his head right, and I don't know what the issue is but there clearly is one based on selections, I don't see things moving forward next season.

That's not on Pep today. Not for me. The system worked perfectly, the lads just couldn't get it done.

He should maybe have put Marmoush on earlier, but otherwise the usually reliable old guard let him down.
Lol.....who played the invisible man from the start, yes he's from the academy and a City fan.....so am I, and would offer just as much, only Haaland had fewer touches than him in the first half!!
Need a goal? Great, got Marmoush on the bench! So puts on Savinho, who offers next to nothing. Our defense has been injured and poor all season, then with Dias/Gvardiol it (by accident maybe) looks better.....so....change it, put Gvardiol at left back, at the expense of O'Reilly, who is actually more of a threat going forward than our wide players ;)
It's less the old guard letting him down, it's who he/club plays and buys.

Its good to get a point away from home against the worst team in premier league history. Lower your expectations some more ;)
Perspective mate, bigger picture.

If we can’t win the league, the next best and only important thing is CL qualification. We’re gonna make it and we’re in the cup final next week.

3rd consecutive away clean sheet too

Glass half full

that game shows exactly how big our rebuild is and that simply the likes of MGW and various others mentioned will only cement us in a battle for top 6...

Our central midfield has zero creativity in it ...there is nothing. There are also no goals in that midfield either

Our wingers wide players dont create besides Doku and certainly never look like scoring.

Fail to address the creativity hole we have and we are in for a long season next season again....we are no where near the Scousers at present.

McAtee can be sold...he has been given quite a few chances now...I thought he had serious potential but he doesnt have attitude or fight to get to the very top.
KDB going - people saying over the last few weeks that it was mistake to let him go - proved very very wrong....
Sav - chance to do something when he came on...does very little again.

Foden - no point in playing him wide - he plays central or not at all...again drop KDB if you have to as he is done.
The reason we are poor is the endless rotation.
The back four we've had success with the last 6 games. Nunes Dias Gvardiol and O'Reilly.
Today only one played in the same position. 2 didn't start
Marmoush has been our best attacker during this period. Doesn't start. Foden has been out of form but today gets to start.

Haaland not played for a while shouldn't automatically get straight back in.

For me today was on the manager.

Appalling performance. The drop in quality is alarming but clearly something is wrong in the camp. The likes of Grealish and Foden see themselves as strolling playmakers without doing the hard stuff and scoring goals. Others are not good enough, inexperienced or going through the motions or their legs have gone.

I think we can expect a major overhaul and a rejuvenited squad in the summer.

Pep and co picked the wrong team selection. Too much sentiment. The last 20 minutes showed a level intent and energy lacking in the first 70 mins.

Spent 200m in January and all of those new signings played a grand total of 6 minutes today. Haaland looks like he’s not even 20% let alone fit enough to play, should have been hooked at half time didn’t look interested. Foden should be sent on an early holiday as he is as much use as Glauber Berti at the minute.

Play anything like that in the last 2 games and we will finish 6-7th.

Said in the pre game thread if we can’t beat this Southampton team we don’t deserve champions league football

....... .and potless.
