Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

I disagree with every poster who says we were bad in the first half. Maybe not our best but definitely not bad.

Southampton pressed us very well in the first half, then got a bit tired and we were all over them. Another problem in the first half was that KDB was a bit isolated and didn't help in the build up. The link between midfield and attack wasn't good enough. And Sterling was poor, both for their goal and the missed chance. Score from that chance and it's a different game.

Refereeing was poor. Should have been a red card, and probably a penalty as well. The contact with KDB wasn't outside the box.

Those who were saying it's done didn't take into account VAR and luck. Nothing is done yet.

For some reason, we are a bit complacent vs bottom half teams. We've dropped 7 pts vs such teams and only 5 vs the top 10. By contrast, Liverpool have dropped only 2 pts vs the bottom half, but are doing much worse vs the top 10.

I am not pleased with this result...and the first 32 minutes. Pep had to do something during the first half, he shouldn't have waited for the half time. That was a shit show. And we are not going to get another penalty from even 80-20 probability after that Arsenal game. And the red card tackle...WTF!!!! Raz....come on man!
That wasnt a shit show , far from it we battered them 2nd half , 17 fucking shots and 74% possesion , if the ref hadnt wanted to become famous by stopping our winning run it would have been another routine win , a shit show , YCNMIU

He was quite good, but a bit slow with what he did, first half. He was quite anonymous second half. I’m underwhelmed so far but, moreover, don’t see where he fits in long term.

But he might adapt and come good at some point.
Hopefully he will, Mahrez also had a so-so 1st season with us, since then he's been very good.

Just be thankful for a point when it’s a game like that, usually one of those where the old adage of “just not our night” would come into play.

Should have been 3 but it was their cup final.

Oh, and var is a joke.

I had a feeling of foreboding about today. It made it all the worse when in the first 5 mins we were walking with the ball & showing no urgency. Ederson was walking with the ball, he waited about 10 seconds for whatever reason, then he eventually passed it to Laporte, who the passed it the fuck back to Ederson when there was no one near them!

The last time we started like this was against Palace, & I just knew we were in danger. When we lost the ball around 5 mins, Foden strolled over to their player who ran off played a 1,2,3 then passed the KWP & I just knew he'd score. Even after that we were fuckin around as if in a training session!

Only in the 2nd half did we look back to our normal self, but we huffed & puffed but thankfully got the equaliser. We had em on the rack until around 78 mins, & then we seemed to tire. We just didn't have that extra gear & the minute or two when we waited for the KDB penalty decision seemed to finish us off.

Southampton gained their 2nd wind, & started flying into challenges, & we just couldn't find this mythical higher gear we're supposed to possess. We were the architects of our near downfall & we've GOT to stop fuckin around playing walking football at the beginning of matches.

Contrast & compare how we started against Chelsea, & tonight?? We literally got what we deserved for a shit first half, where it seemed we thought all we had to do was turn up & collect 3 points. It's the fuckin Premier League, & there are no totally shit teams anymore!!

The only plus was the point, which could be crucial come the end of the season. I'm fuckin pissed the fuck off! Rant over. :-(
Where were you when we were sh!t???
