Southampton (N) | FAC | Post Match Thread

great goal by Nico and Doku deserved the bit of luck on his goal as his approach play helped to change the game.

We deserved the win despite not looking great as again we were the only team to try and play any football - lik Burnley, Southampton just sat all 10 outfield players behind the ball...so ive little to no sympathy for them despite being underdogs

I think however that some of our fringe players just arent good enough...

Savio - Im sorry but Jesus Navas would have scored that!!!! - he has consistantly proved that he aint at the level required
Reijnders...unless he is shooting he offers nothing
Marmoush is a second striker playing off a main forward...he cant lead the line on his own and as a result of that he doesnt have a place in this team - works hard and has his attributes but he aint playing games when Haaland is fit and able.
Its not that our fringe players aren't good enough. It's that you can't do whole sale substitutions and expect good results. 4 subs max. And one of those has to be the goalie. Then you start hot and remove the starters.

I dont know how many games we have to struggle through for this to become obvious.

Start the majority of the front line. One sub in the middle and maybe 2 at the back.

Start your starters and sub them out.!!!!!

It’s a collective weakness that has plagued us for the last three seasons. No matter the permutation, we seem to lose composure and the chance goes begging. Frustrating.
last three seasons? we been champions, 3 place + fa cup final and now in the title race. Pep's City is among best in history but im sure you would do better. Bellends everywhere here these days

We’re discussing our ability to convert counter-attacks, not the overall success of the club.

I hope you’re right about Foden. Has been brilliant. Unfortunately living in the past of what he did 3 years ago is no use to us at the moment. He needs to get it together again .
I hope so because at the moment he offers nowt. He has no presence and zero affect on the game, losing the ball when challenged and looking somewhat depressed even. God only knows what’s wrong! I think he probably doesn’t even know himself and I so desperately want him to find a way to get through whatever this is as it’s his club.

ok, maybe i was too harsh, but you cant be so factually incorrect against your own team. 3 seasons ago (which is actually even 2 seasons ago) we been champions and battered Real in UCL in all aspects but penalties. Year earlier, so really 3 seasong ago, we won treble

Savinho had a good game vs Newcastle
Would we miss him if he left?

There's nothing harsh about it
Savinho isn’t a seasoned pro that has won everything there is to win ask me again and in 10 years on him and I’ll answer that one then but it’s only opinions I think Kovacic in my opinion would be missed a good squad player next year if we let him go

Our opinions differ, so let's leave it there and celebrate our win

If you go back and watch games, you’ll see that Haaland/Foden/Doku often got into positions but lacked the composure or understanding between them to finish. It’s one of the reasons we presumably brought Gundogan back, though injuries to others saw him drop deeper. The same was true last season, but with Savinho/Marmoush added to the combination, and this year with Cherki and Semenyo. They’re all highly talented individuals, true, but when on the counter they’re prone to making the wrong decision. It doesn’t mean we’re bad as a team, but it’s an aspect of our play we should be looking to improve.

I’ve bitten my tongue for long enough tonight, but I have to add weight to one argument

Savinho really is utter shite

I don’t need to detail why , but let’s just say I can’t think of anyone I’ve ever seen who is as useless at finishing in a City shirt since Wayne Biggins

I never said "all of them"; I said quite a few. Which I stand over. You asked me if I seriously thought that every (your word) poster who had doubts would rather City lose than be proven wrong? So; please, don't accuse me of saying something that I clearly didn't say. If you don't believe, trace the exchange of posts back.
Have a day off, can't you?

I asked something, you replied, I agreed - but yet you still feel aggrieved?

(Fwiw - strictly speaking, you said 'quite a few' which could, possibly, mean all those who had doubts. These are semantics - I didn't think you meant all of them, I used a figure of speech as you must know?)

But take it however you want - I'm just happy that we've reached the FA Cup final.

Just checking that you hadn’t forgotten Lee Bradbury…
