Southampton Post Match Thread

But we still manage many shots on goal despite not having players in the positions we would like them to be.
Even with the opposing teams concentrating more on stopping us we get many shots away.
Are we shooting from worse positions or perhaps shooting in frustration rather than to score a goal ?

My point is we have been here before where our defence or team selection options are not exactly how Pep would like it but it does not seem to have affected our ball possession percentage or the number of shots on goal this manages to generate. Why are we no longer as clinical as we were earlier in the season ?
If you see the goals we were scoring earlier in the season ,we were cutting teams apart and passing into the box with someone unmarked with a tap in. Teams are so shit scared of us and are playing Pullis football, 10 men behind the ball and no space in the box so we are shooting from futher out. If you look at shots on target last night, how many are from inside the box. We had several shots saved by Forster that are from outside the box.

Exactly how many goals have we conceded from corners or set pieces this season?

Season wise we have been fine. Last night we weren't. As this is the "Post Match" thread I was discussing last night in the main and made reference to Sunday as we conceded Sunday. We weren't good last night and we weren't good Sunday. Other than that we have been fine.

Yes, I think teams will continue this approach. They'll prefer a 1 or 2 nil than taking the fight to us and getting spanked. I hope it doesn't mean we lost our edge against the more aggressive teams.

I have just noticed on MOTD that our expected goals were less than Southampton. I don’t think this has ever happened during this winning run before. It makes me think that the opposition is getting better and better at dealing with our approach. We are still dominating the other stats but our numerous chances are getting harder to execute and the opposition’s chances are getting easier to finish. It may just be the rotation of players or fatigue but this winning run is starting to run out of legs (a win at the swamp may reenergise it) but we will still win the league.

Despite that Kun missed a free header from 6 yards out, Jesus missed a one on one with the keeper (decent save but should have scored for me), Fernandinho had a shot from
Inside the box that wasn't very powerful and I think it was Jesus who had one saved by Forsters legs in the box. Gundogan hitting the rebound wide. These were all reasonable chances. I don't think we lacked creation last night. The finishing has dropped off a little.

The City all angles video of the Red winner showed that Kev got a really nasty foot stamp as he passed the ball to Raz. ill be very surprised if he doesn't really feel that today and tomorrow.

There seems to be with our players an ever-growing and successful attempt to take out, or knock off their stride, the player who instigates a move and might then be looking for a return pass. I think it was Aguero who got thumped to the ground just outside the Soton pen area and then KdB got unceremoniously dumped after making the assist to Sterling.

OK but you said we need to tighten up, which rather sounds like a forward looking comment and wider than one match.

Of course, we should always be looking to improve but I think we currently have the best defensive record from set pieces, with Huddersfield being the only goal conceded.

Really impressed with our resilience. No panic, just keep playing proper football. Grind it out when we have to. Team spirit is amazing. Just so proud of liddle citeh ! Red dipper said to me today: your boys will not be caught, they have it all.
