This BBC reporting about Southport is shocking. Like they've never used a map before, it's not the other side of Mersey to Liverpool and neither is it on the estuary to it either. /rantover

Hoping everyone pulls through but they're now reporting negatively on that so not looking good.

It’s fucking mental world now, my daughters friends mum just told us a bloke tried their front door yesterday twice wouldn’t leave, police called he had a screwdriver and someone else’s passport and credit cards!

This is approaching the point in society when the police should be able to take these sort of characters out . If they see someone running around out of control do us all a favour and terminate them
They will do if they're still at risk of harming others but ideally they will want them alive. For a family member who may have to deal with the consequences, being able to get answers from the perpetrator can help them.

Always worth remembering that the Moors Murders, one of the most horrific incidents involving the murder of children, took place 60 years ago. The Dunblane massacre was nearly 30 years ago. This isn't a new phenomenon.
It's not

Sadly it's just as sickening every time when it involves kids. You can never get numb to that.

It feels like a terroristic attack. That’s not to say the murderer is a terrorist, but that the severity of the attack has created terror in the community, leading to people reflexively espousing the death penalty and beating him to death.

Rather, we should recognize how horrific, yet completely NON-NORMAL, this event is and then go on about our lives. Yes, we can, and should, feel sad for the child, their family and friends, but we have to ensure we do NOT allow the actions of one maniac committing an horrific attack, even against a child(ren), to change US.

We are a nation of laws and we should ensure they represent how we, as citizens, feel about the crimes committed. Personally, I abhor personal violence, and if this is that, he should never see the light of day ever again.

If, as most believe, he is a mental case, then he should receive the medical assistance he needs and then never see the light of day!

Society has to have guard rails, but if you’re willing to simply blow right through them, we do not wish you to be part of the society in which we live. It’s as simple as that…for me. YMMV.

My thoughts go out to those affected, especially parents that now have to plan a funeral for their child…something that should never happen.

It could easily just be a domestic situation that has escalated tragically. It actually seems like an odd place to carry out a terrorist attack but time will tell us.

good post.
One counter...If he is a mental case?..you would have to say that his (her? actions would be the very definition of being a mental case...

These nutters usually top themselves at the end

I’m glad they’ve got him and he’s got to suffer inside a prison as a child killer

I have no doubt that anyone committing such a crime has erased the mental boundaries imposed by society. Whether that is a medically, or psychiatrically, qualified decrement or a simple break from reality due to a short-term mental breakdown, I think we qualify each differently.

I can’t see how it can be prevented- any sick twisted fucker can grab a kitchen knife and go out and do that.

You are right about impossible to stop the nutters, But for youths or anybody else thinking about carrying a knife there should be a deterrent knowing even if your carrying a knife it 7 to 15 years if found on you,

People are out of control because of the lack of long punishment handed out for major crimes, Stop fannying about with youths, Hard Punishment or Boot camps like National Service Army for 5 years, So you want to fight do you, Well get them all together and let the Army show you how to fight,

Youths on the street will soon be back in order, When they know any messing about you are gone from mum and dad and home, No phones to ring your mates or to roam the street giving it billy bollocks, You will soon learn if the Army get hold of you, 7 to 15 years inside for knife crimes or Boot camp with the Army for 3 to 5 years,

There is no reliable evidence anywhere in the world that suggests tougher sentencing acts as any kind of deterrent in serious crime.

Especially if this is someone who is mentally ill. Known to the authorities, lessons must be learnt etc......... is the usual crap spouted.

Believe me, If somebody is getting 7 to 15 years for just carrying a Knife on the street knife crime will drop
The reason why there isnt reliable evidence anywhere in the world is that there are no punishment rules like that in place, Get fucking real, 7 to 15 years just for carrying a knife is with intent to use it (murder)

Matey, it's not crap

Knife crime is out of control because of the laws in place, Get real, enough of the pussy footing around
Change the laws to harder punishment even just for carrying a knife ? Why do people want to carry a knife for ? yeah it looks good Fuck off, Carrying a knife is intended to use it
You make a fair point re knife crime mate but I think that's a different discussion altogether. The discussion earlier was about the death penalty versus, say, life imprisonment for murder and whether the death penalty would act as more of a deterrent to someone hellbent on killing someone. I think it's been proven worldwide that having the death penalty doesn't in any way discourage murderers from carrying out crimes.

The mistake people make when coming out with statements like this, is an assumption that everyone thinks alongside the same lines as regular, law abiding people like themselves.

They don’t.

If it did, kids wouldn’t be going around hacking each other to bits with machetes because they have wandered into the wrong postcodes.

People in Brazil wouldn’t be running around attempting street robberies when it seems like anyone can just pull out a handgun and shoot them dead with impunity.

And places like Holland and Norway would be the most violent places on earth.
