Another once lovely town that has regressed into a shithole.
I'm from Southport (plastic, I know) and I couldn't disagree.

How do they get the bars in the trees to stay up?
They’ve got Two Hoots though which is probably my favourite beer at the moment.
Quite funny that people who believe Southport is a shithole will live in a far bigger shithole themselvesI'm from Southport (plastic, I know) and I couldn't disagree.
I stand to be corrected, but I think the pub Bishop had was The Fishermens Rest in Birkdale, Southport.Didn't Ian Bishop run a pub in Southport many moons ago, The Travellers Rest or the Travellers Call I think it was called. Not a clue where it was or whether they show footy, so probably of no use, but I just thought I'd throw it in.
Just thought I'd bump this thread, as I'm there with the Mrs this weekend in the Bliss hotel!Had a weekend there last summer and to be honest pleasantly surprised
Stayed at the hotel Bliss over looking the lake
The weather was great that helped and will definitely go back
Not been back to Southport since I ventured in, but it's a pub with a big food offering, rather than a backstreet boozer with sawdust on the floor. Apart from the beer (no Guinness - boo) I had a lovely time trying some of Holt's finest and the Staff were lovely and didn't hear much crowing from any Scousers in there. Lots of TVs too, so you shouldn't struggle to find a view.Just thought I'd bump this thread, as I'm there with the Mrs this weekend in the Bliss hotel!
Is The Imperial still the go-to pub for us Blues?
Bad choice, I know, but there's no way I'm browsing round the shops knowing it's on, so pub it is!It's on ITV so expect it will be shown in every pub in Southport. Bit too near dipperland for any City fan to risk his life/wallet.
Cheers Dave! Good advice! Not been back to Southport since I ventured in, but it's a pub with a big food offering, rather than a backstreet boozer with sawdust on the floor. No idea what it's like though when the Dippers are playing, especially us,hopefully a local can provide an update, but this is a glorified pre-season game rather than an end of season Prem decider, so hopefully it should be good.
I'd possibly suggest booking a table if you wanted to eat and combine footy with food? It is the school holidays after all.

Considering we are only on Sky multi-view/plus/red button etc, and looking at the other games that night, I’d say chances are slim, unless there’s a sports bar with 8 screens or something where they might put it on 1 screen (?).In Southport for the Swansea match, anyone know any pubs that will be showing City. With it being dippers country, I assume most pubs will be showing them
I ended up in the Imperial yesterday, thanks for the recommendations. Got a great seat in front of the biggest telly and the food in there was great too.
Shame the result wasn't as expected, but a good crowd in there who all groaned in unison when Razza missed his sitter.
Shame no Guinness on tap or Holt's Black (apparently no demand), so had a random pint each time I went back to the bar.
Must admit, I like how Lord Street looks nowadays, looks as though they are trying to bring it back up to how it used to be with a good selection of shops, eateries and bars and lights in the trees, very nice on the eye.

Has the tide turned? They are spending a lot of money on improving Southport now ....
Lol, apparently ..... I saw it on Granada Reports the other week .... they said they want to return the place to it's 'former glory', lol.Has the tide turned?
It’s a good place, mostly Lancs, lots of visitors at weekend, tolerant, integrated communities, good pubs, great parks and a few times a month the tide hits the sea wall… 4 years in and we are at home! Flat, so no knee problems, easy to get to Eastlands, good beer, and the sun shines…
And nice people.
Where else can you see a knitted Spitfire this week?!

Not sure if Bishop ran a pub in Southport ...but he definitely ran midfield against utd in The Maine rd massacre ..Didn't Ian Bishop run a pub in Southport many moons ago, The Travellers Rest or the Travellers Call I think it was called.
