chesterbells said:The idea that continuity in and of itself will bring success is an enormous myth. People always quote taggart and wenger, but they've stayed because of their success not vice versa. Real Madrid have swapped managers lots and won plenty.
If every club in the league kept their manager for 15 years would it mean they would all be successful? Too much emphasis gets placed on the long term, on continuity, in football. Teams progress can't be planned in a progression of improvement.
I can't see the problem with a team who brings in a coach who is successful for 4 years then leaves: so what? The club and it's wider structure continues intact.
Incidentally Ferguson didnt win anything for his first two seasons a poorer record than Mancini and Wenger didint win anything in his first full season in charge either. So they were kept irrespective of their early record and continual success followed.
No one is saying we should keep a manager 15 years without success, we already have a manager in place who has already achieved success, thats the issue why change it. We have the squad and the manager in place to deliver that success why change that when we have no guarantee of the results?
