Spitfire or Hurricane?

Hurricane for what and how it did.
Spitfire for its looks, but that’s relegated to 2nd place by the Mozzy.
The Mosquito was the stealth aircraft of its day. Due to its primarily wooden structure, it only presented a small reflective area for enemy radar signals, and was often masked by background clutter.

The Spitfire went through many marks the mark IX was supercharged, and
this boosted its speed above the most common Spitfire the mkV. which was
then able to compete with the brilliant Fokker Wulf. Many Hurricanes were
converted into 'Hurribombers' used mostly in support of attacking troops.

Spitfire was designed to intercept enemy fighters and peel them away from the bombers they were meant to escort. Hurricanes were less capable of taking on other fighters, so were designed to shoot down bombers once their escorts had been drawn away by Spitfires. As a result, 80% of German planes shot down were done by Hurricanes. Arguably the Spitfire had a more difficult job.

Interesting.

The designer of the Spitfire Reginald J Mitchel was born about a mile from our house just over the border in Staff. Very clever chap. He was also learning to fly but sadly died early from cancer I believe.

I went up in a 1942 Tiger Moth at Duxford last year, my wife bought it for my Birthday. I had a fly too, it was excellent. You could also go up in a Spitfire. But it's much much more expensive, will have to wait untill I win the lottery or something. That merlin just engine sounds fabulous.
