Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Let's have a sensible discussion without some people calling people "Entitled" or "Fanny Wipes" or "Happy Clappers".

We played some of our best football for 35 minutes. Didn't put chances away. But, we give away the same goal every single game and it has nothing to do with individuals and everything to do with the style of football we play - which is not like pep's first season at all, where everyone was learning something new.

We push everyone into the last 3rd of the pitch and becuase they can pack the box with 7-8 players - they play the odds - leave 2 up, generally quick and hope we give the ball away. Even though we played good football, they still had the 2 best chances in the first half, and scored one of them. Its fucking suicidal football. Their 2nd goal was lovely, you can't argue with that, but that first goal was completely unnecessary if we play a different way.

We're more control based, and i actually think our players (who are fit) are not suited to this. Haaland thrives on through balls that never get played. Savinho (who was absolutely horrendous in that 2nd half - abominable selfish terrible) clearly likes to play fast. Nunes wants to play quick. Rico wants to play quick. Foden plays how he's told, so would play quick. And yet we play slow.

I don't get it, i don't get it at all.
Spot on

Honestly, this is what happens when your two best players are injured. The rest just don’t have the creativity. Sure, someone like Berna works hard, but there’s not a hint of real creativity in him. Gundi looks worn out, and as for Foden, I think he’s a bit overrated. He’s a good player, but nowhere near KDB's level. He can't carry the team alone or dictate the play like peak Silva or KDB. He needs someone beside him who brings that main creative spark, like KDB does. That’s why I’m saying the summer transfer window will be critical, if we miss, we’ll drop off, no doubt about it. We need a true creative passer, and there aren't many around. We have to go all out for Wirtz; otherwise, we’re headed for a decline.

Without his goals we’d be in even bigger trouble.
Who’s getting the goals?
Jack?
Savinho?
Doku?
Kev?
Phil?
Bernardo?
If it wasn’t for Gvardiol and Stones we’d be even more fucked.
The rest of the team needs to step up, it’s not all on Haaland.
He contributed zero tonight. Looked out of his depth against average defenders and never looked to get involved in the second half.

How the fuck was that 2nd one a penalty and Bernie’s wasn’t?
Anyway suck my fucking dick. You’re a known rag ****.
Didnt comment anything about bernies penalty and said sporting ones were penaltys, dont really give a f..k what you think or say...what team is a rag anyway ? Dont watch any football besides city anyway ,so back off

You've got to take your fucking chances at this level, that's the difference in this game. And for all the goals Haaland scores I still don't think he's a lethal finisher. Seems to score lots, in clutches, then a drought. Losing Rodri was/is an absolute hammer blow to the team, but we should still have enough quality once the injuries clear up. Got to be clinical, so maybe a 2nd striker is on the cards for the Jan transfer window.

Up the blues.

Absolutely abysmal. From a game we were coasting at 1-0 up to falling apart all over the place shows a lack of courage, heart and guts and that is worrying. While some injured players coming back might improve us I'm not so sure they'll improve us enough to challenge for any honours this season. Pep doesn't get a pass here either. Look, there is no doubt he's a fantastic coach but fuck me he has to have a plan B! We just cannot play this system without Rodri or anybody who can do even half the job he did.

He's getting paid the mega bucks to come up with a solution but so far he's just continuing to play the same way. We got away with it at first ....just, but fuck me we were playing Wolves, Fulham, Southampton and Brentford. Against a better team, Bournemouth away, we were lucky not to be on the end of a scoreline like tonight.

The next two games, Brighton and Spurs. Does anyone fancy us getting anything from these games except two more drubbings? Maybe I'm overreacting as it's been a shit week but I'm not anticipating much from this season.
