Always makes me laugh how our so-called experts accept that no club can cope with having to change the matchday squad around as much as we have to do with the ridiculous injury list and not expect it to be detrimental, and yet don't seem to recognise that exact same thing is the reason why we're on a poor run and talk like we're in the middle of a crisis, virtually in the same breath.
Whatever you may think of Walker, we're missing his pace at the back when the other team break.
The big losses, Rodri and De Bruyne are bound to make a difference and the sheer number of players out basically tell the story. There isn't much more to it than that, as long as we can get the players back we're still easily capable of winning the title and the CL.
Look, Arse are still 5 points behind us which is remarkable with our current issues given that they're supposed to be our main contenders, and Liverpool have been near perfect (on paper at least), yet are only two points ahead. They don't look like a team that will hit 90 or so points. And even RM aren't having a stellar Champions League tournament so far, they lost again 3-1 at home tonight. So the wheels haven't come off, it just feels like they have. To some, anyway.
Main concerns for me longer term are the defence, we've become far too easy to score against, and in attack we've become far too predictable, which is what I said would happen a couple of years ago. It's inevitable that teams get used to the way you play. We're trying to walk it in far too often which is near impossible against 8-10 defenders every week. We also need to do some work on corners, we get a hell of a lot of corners yet rarely score from one.
But that wasn't a 1-4 performance. I missed the start of the second half but had our penalty gone in it would have been a different story and I think they would have panicked. Both their penalties were a bit soft, particularly the second one (as was ours of course), I doubt if any of those are given on a Saturday afternoon. Just one of those nights against a very good side that looks a lot worse because of our current form.
Just one point, we need a replacement for Alvarez and I would seriously consider signing their no. 9, Gyokeres, before United do.
