Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

other than the 5 goals scored, they had the next best chance. It should have been 1-1 much earlier
I wouldn't disagree, but that's the point, we should capitalise on that miss. We simply don't hit the target enough, and were guilty again tonight, obviously if you don't hit the target you won't score, they got "lucky" with the clearance off the line, but Bernardo's shot should be on target, Haalands not down the keepers throat.

We lost tonight because we failed to put the game to bed when we were battering them, it's not the first time this season, and we've got lucky a few times and still won, but eventually that catches up with you.

Especially when you utterly fail to score when you should.

I'm not normally kneejerk, but I so was fucked off tonight even before they equalised, you can't dominate a football match that much, and not be 3 or 4 ahead, it's ridiculous, and it needs sorting out.

The first 35-40 minutes tonight is probably the best we've played team wise all season, so I'm sorry but it's a complete failure of the players, and it needs saying. The start of the second half came as no surprise, so I turned it off, I was actually angry with them for failing to put the game to bed, long before the equaliser.
Looking more of a complete disaster in letting Alvarez and Palmer go. 2 players good for a goal if the big man isn't scoring.

Bournemouth, West Ham and Southampton.

As I was suggesting, everyone has their level and he is playing in a team well above his.

Never going to be good enough, and a bad signing, as was Phillips, that was the comparison.
Yeah pal these are the teams that he played against because he didn't get a chance against anyone else, and I don't know if you''ve been paying attention but every single fucking game at the moment is a tough one and almost no one was better him in those games.

Phillips never managed to look even half as good as Nunes has been lately so yeah your comparaison is lazy and stupid.

Bleak? Pull yourself together.

When we get KDB, Grealish, Walker, Dias and Stones back we'll be more solid.

We've been here nearly every year. Around this time we have bad results and people on here lose their head. Then we lift trophies at the end of the season.
When...........

Wingers worry me a lot. we had high scoring wingers in Mahrez, Sterling and now we have Grealish, Doku, Savinho, Nunes, who together may or may not reach the output of a better Sterling or Mahrez season but certainly not individually. add in that Gundo fell off a cliff, while Foden aint hitting height of last season, Bernardo also not chipping in, KDB out, we sold Alvarez, Rodri off, we would need the wingers to deliver but bloody hell it could be March by the time 10 goals are scored by all our wingers together in PL + vs some better quality CL teams.

almost zero threat from wingers this season. this puts huge burden on Haaland.

our goal tally will suffer due to this, and our points tally too.

Salah already had 17 G+A this season at age 32 in PL and CL (8 goals, 9 assists)
Doku 1 goal, 2 assists
Grealish 1 assist
Savinho 4 assists

thats combined 1 goal, 7 assists.

if 3 of them together cannot outperform an old Salah thats a joke imo.

we can only have wingers like this if there is a steady line of goals from midfielders and strikers and defenders. but two of the best players from last season in terms of G+A are off (Rodri and Alvarez while Foden aint hitting those heights with this form)
but Kovacic, Lewis aint gonna turn up with high tally, and Gundogan seems to have lost that great skill of adding those extra goals. KDB aint fit enough.

Ederson vs pens not including shootouts.

His CL stat is 1 saved/missed vs 11 conceded.
The pens were good.
I wouldn't disagree, but that's the point, we should capitalise on that miss. Yeah it does and it has. Their heads went down too after their third tonight which is totally unacceptable.

Very very hard, painful watch. We were bang on it in the first half and should have been comfortable with another couple of goals, however their keeper stopped everything. We got a warning when they played a ball from defence between our defenders and the striker brushed off Simpson Pusey, but fluffed his attempt. We didn’t learn from it and they did the same in the 38th min and he scored, he was fortunate as he scuffed his shot and it found its way into the net….

Then we absolutely capitulated. To conceded after 20 seconds from the restart is totally unprofessional and demonstrates a clear lack of concentration, shocking defensively. However, to then conceded a stupid penalty, what appeared to be less than a minute later, when we had possession too, is diabolical. Our defending tonight was not good at all collectively.

Pep dropped a bollock with that back four, those selected all had stinkers, but the high line fucked us. Rico is always going to be pushing on and doesn’t have the pace to recover as we have seen on too many occasions this season. Akanji and Gvardiol played like they’d just been promoted from the youth team, like Simpson Pusey. The poor lad got a roasting, strange choice by Pep to play him in such a game. It was a mistake for sure.

The midfield constantly caught in possession or gave the ball away needlessly, Bernardo and Kovacic can not give us the drive and creativity needed. Neither of them performed well tonight, Phil started well but faded. Our wingers repeatedly wasted opportunities with poor ball into the box or in Savinho’s case, wildly shooting when there were much better options. Erling, started off well, but faded and then that penalty! The keeper had already gone before he struck the ball. Terrible penalty and it could have changed the game.

The only positive was finally seeing Kev back on the pitch. We need to get over Rodri, we won’t see him until next August, we have to get other key players fit and quickly otherwise there will be more of these pastings. The international break can’t come quick enough, but the club MUST put their foot down with players wanting to represent their national teams whilst not being fit for City.

We’re not in a great place at the moment, we are struggling and we look totally disjointed and have done for a few weeks, despite getting wins; but we need to get our mojo back otherwise we may find ourselves in a worse situation.
The weekend could be the crux point of the season. Pull something out here and it could put and end to this shite we're currently seeing. Lose and the whole thing gets way way harder.

Shit again.

Gutted.

Awful window and can’t see us signing in January to help us. Looks bleak.
Yay.
Best post of the night.
