Sporting CP (H) - CL Last 16 | Post Match Thread

I thought the game was good. I’m sure we must have had at least 75% possession and we never stopped running. There were about 5 minutes or so in the second half where we were so in control that it looked as if we were just having a training session!

I thought all the youngsters took their ‘elevation’ extremely well. Apart from the first 5 or 10 minutes young CJ did a grand job. John Boy had a quiet word with him, obviously of encouragement
because suddenly his nervousness seemed to ease. Not completely but hey it’s a big step up.

I know it was a ‘dead rubber’ in a way but I was watching how the youngsters were developing and so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not bored at all but that’s me. :-)

And of course my MOTM is a certain Mr JB Stones!! :-) :-)

I’m glad that Carson got an airing so to speak although obviously when he went down injured my heart was in my mouth.

Not sure but I thought I saw Bernie limping at the end when the players came on the pitch to applaud us. Hope he’s ok.
Not far off EB it was 69%, I thought it was a decent game too, but I wasn't doing a 350 mile round trip after the first leg so "worked" whilst watching it. We played in a reserved way, and not many broke a sweat, but I thought most of our play was good. Foden was outstanding first half, and Fernandhino and Stones throughout, the kids all looked good too, which is a real bonus, and the grandad did OK too, though if that injury had been more serious that would have looked a bit stupid with Steffen already out.

Bernardo took a knock before half time, which he limped away from, but stayed on and wasn't treated, so sadly that observation might well be a concern.

No wonder you like Scott Carson he’s older than you!

That was my thoughts... So many times I though 'go on lad, storm down the wing and put a cross in ffs' but he'd play it backwards. I know he's inexperienced and a kid but jesus kid.... Go for it, make a difference to the game, make your mark on the game.
He didn’t put a foot wrong in the game. He had a brief like all the others did. Why pick holes when they aren’t any to pick.
He got his chance and proved he can do a job and follow the instructions of the best coach in the world. If it was 0-0 you would have seen different tactics. Not rocket science !
