What is it that you think you see there that makes my comment "horseshit"?

The only thing missing from that west facade is the final layer of perforated aluminium veil cladding (the framework of which is in the process of being installed) and a few more sections of the eaves. The open areas that you see are meant to be open (though they will be covered by the veil) because they contain only plant. The perforated cladding will allow airflow and enable cooling.

Same goes for the other three facades to varying degrees. Very little of the remaining exterior work is critical. Not all of it is required to have reached completion in order for interim safety certificates to be issued. Likewise the roof. Nigh on completed. Likewise the stadium bowl. Just 20% or so of seating to be installed (they can install 5K seats a day if necessary) and the turf to be laid (a 3 day job, max). Even work on public areas around the stadium is well advanced.

Still a fair bit to do internally. That was always likely to be the biggest concern. Even so, internal fit out can, and usually does, come together amazingly quickly as the deadline draws near. No doubt that there would have been some non-critical elements of the stadium unfinished by 15th September but the stadium would have been safe and useable were it not for the issue highlighted by the test event.

And if suppliers and contractors haven't been paid?

The game against City is due to be played on 28th October. I will be very surprised if the necessary safety certificates haven't been issued by then.

It’s not long ago that you were saying that you’d be very surprised if the necessary safety certificates weren’t issued for the first game of the season.

I don't remember saying anything of the sort. I do remember saying, prior to Monday's announcement of the delay, that the stadium would be ready, if not finished. But that was specifically in response to claims that there was far too much work left to do. The actual reason for the delay isn't the amount of work outstanding. Rather, it is the failure of work that had already, supposedly, been completed.

Hmmm. Yes. There is a difference. I agree.

But I don't think that you can get away from the fact that Spurs sold tickets on the basis that there were no significant issues with the stadium when in fact there clearly were. Whether they acted in good faith or that they painted an overly optimistic picture, we will never know. Nevertheless the result is the same. The brand and reputation of Spurs is damaged amongst their own fans, other teams fans, the media, the premier league, the FA and the footballing world as a whole.

And there has to be a reasonable possibility that this uncertainty will have a negative effect on results.

So if we force them to play the game at the new stadium, beat them like last season in front of a greatly reduced crowd for safety reasons, would it be the shittest opening for a stadium ever?

Spuds ain’t gonna be happy when Levy sells Kane. The bank will be happy. Reminds me of Yaya when he’s on the ball (minus Yaya beast mode).
