Spurs (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Spurs are a different team when they have Kulusevski and Bentancur in it. Two top players and when you add Kane, Son and Romero to that, they have a chance against any side at home if they have their best 11 out.

We were poor though and completely toothless. Guardiola over-thinking things in big games as usual and trying to be clever, but ends up looking like a right Frank Spencer.

Spurs did not play well today. They fought harder. They won those second balls in midfield, and were first to any loose balls on the pitch. They were throwing themselves in front of shots. Every high ball into Haaland, there were 3 of them jumping for it. They won that game through grit and fight.

If you can't match that effort, you aint winning football matches. Regardless of the talent on the pitch.

So pedestrian and lacking options to pass to. Didn’t really create anything and looked like we would get countered on every time they had the ball.
No pace in the side lack of penetration from midfield.

Lewis is doing well but chucking him at left back is not the way forward. Miss dias at the back. He’s an organiser as well as a good defender. Rodri was poor. Bernardo looks like he wants to be anywhere but here. Haaland looked fucked off.

Need an overhaul in the summer. Thing is the league is there to be won because arsenal for all their praise and plaudits really aren’t anything special.

I also fear for us against Leipzig the way things are going.

No one in the camp looks or appears happy. Maybe needs a clear out and an overhaul come the summer. Things have to change.

Ugh could have gone either way but another big blow.

I honestly can’t see form being co sister until we can get the back 4 right. Just seems impossible this year

The matchday thread and this is akin to a boxers corner throwing the fucking towel in after 10 seconds and one punch!

Get a fucking grip ffs.

No divine right to win every game or every PL. This manager and squad has broken records, left, right and centre and will do so again over the next few years as he rebuilds.

Meanwhile we are 2nd in the fucking PL and still in the FA cup and CL.
I know many were upset with my comments in the match thread—and I have followed up with a few directly to explain my posts after the match thread was locked—but I wanted to clarify them:

I wasn’t criticising others critiquing our performance or players or Pep. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I was commenting on the vitriolic posts that have unfortunately become a hallmark of match threads, with them becoming more and more toxic this season, which seems to be spilling over in to the forum in general.

So many seem to be so reactionary and so angry when we don’t play well now that they seem to lose their heads and post completely OTT comments that set the tone. It then snowballs from there.

And it’s honestly very sad to see.

I was even told I am not fit to moderate the forum for speaking out against it.

Which, fair enough, if people genuinely feel that way, I’ll hang up my mod boots.

But I hate to see the place I have spent so much time on for the past 13+ years, on which I have created so many great relationships, and which has served as my connection to home as my community has shrunk substantially these last few years, sliding in to a more hostile place, despite our best efforts to prevent it.

As I said, if I am no longer fit for purpose, I’ll step down.

If it really is rip it up and start again,

What the point in 12 months more of Pep before he goes back home ?

Not a Pep out post.

Just a logical question.
It's tough to answer that not knowing who's to blame for the rumoured fallout with some players in the squad. I meant more from a squad planning standpoint. Plenty of players coming towards the end of their respective cycles at the club. Whether Pep oversees that or not is surely his decision given the club has given him a new contract just recently. Time will tell

We’re a mess.
That’s a shocking Spurs team we’ve lost to.
my observations….

Rodri’s worst game in ages. But least he doesn’t hide, he does look tired, but we seem to have no plan B if we need to rest him.

Lewis is class but he’s over played.

Akanji whilst quality and does nothing wrong, shouldn’t be playing ahead of Dias, Laporte or Stones.

Silva seems to have lost his desire to run back.

Mahrez is soft as shit.

Haaland, fuck me how frustrated must this lad be?

We’ve lost our identity. Our best players from recent years are either old or out of form (or both).

Best way to sum up for me…
We resemble Pellegrinis last year.

The foden business is bizarre, he traveled with the squad but is still unwell ? I don’t call in work sick and sit in the car park for 8 hrs . Clearly he’s stepped out of peps line and serving his penance. Something very odd.
Odd side selection from the off . Odd tatics followed.
Strange times .Anyway as always up the blues.
He was ill overnight so was not going to play.

Ake is currently our best LB and I know plenty on here will argue our best defender this season. The point isn’t that Ake isn’t doing his best (he is), it’s that his best is levels below the best of the likes of Kompany, Dias, Stones, Laporte etc.
Ake is great at LB if the LB tucks in and he plays it as a CB imo.

He isn't quite at the level for a high quality passing LB, but good enough defensively that I'm okay.

My main issue is the back 3, and of the 6 players we have that can play there, none of the top 3 played (Stones, Dias, Laporte). So we are playing our worst back 3 in terms of passing.

Have any 2 of (Stones, Dias and Laporte) with any of the other 3 who started today and it's perfectly good because there is a good balance of defending and passing, but the current balance isn't great.

Thought we started well with a bit of urgency. The sloppy mistake for the goal killed that, third goal spurs have scored against us and we've gifted them each one. After that a lot of huff n puff but a real lack of belief we could turn it around. Team seems to believe that keeping possession wins again we are seeing more n more now with each game that we have been sussed out and teams now how to play us.

Still got to believe but we now need 6 points against arsenal but this month with away games at leipzig and arsenal will go a long way to defining our season
