Spurs (A) Post match Thread

Whilst I was critical of both our fullbacks tonight, the four worst players on show were the 4 fullbacks so maybe the pitch on the wide areas was even worse than it looked?
Anyway, didn’t play great, created some decent chances, kept the 6th clean sheet in a row and Kane Lamela and Moura had 4 touches in our box.
A brilliant 3 points, everything considered and all’s well with the world.

More from the Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports:

"It was a big satisfaction [to win] - the way we played, [with] the skinny and small guys to see how clever they are to win the balls

"Of course Tottenham have quality and a better pitch would also suit them."

On the pitch:

"It’s a question for the Premier League and Tottenham. We were invited to come here today for the fixture hopefully they can solve that problem."

On Mahrez:

"He’s playing at a high levels scoring goals and making a lot of assists. He’s a guy who doesn’t lose the ball and gives us everything he gives us in that extra pass.

"Of course he knew the [Leicester] owner and for all the Leicester family it's tough and complicated because a lot of people passed away. Here though, he did really good, he was focused and did a great job.

More from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports:

"We missed a lot. You cannot expect against Tottenham to score a lot of goals, the pitch was complicated and we played against a physical team - with [Mousa] Dembele, [Davinson] Sanchez, [Toby] Alderweireld, [Eric] Dier - incredible physicality and the pitch was so complicated, it was so difficult.

"In the first 15-20 minutes of the second-half we should have the game over and the big events, like the Champions League, if we are not more clinical, sooner or later we are not going to win."

Man City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a great victory in special conditions, against one of the most physical teams in Europe. We had many chances. We have to score and we didn’t. That is why hopefully we will improve in the future.

"It was not football conditions to play. We reacted well. For our players and the players of Tottenham, hopefully they will sort the problem for the future."

He's not wrong though is he, Dave and Dinho are masters of the cynical trips.
What we do well, perfectly in fact, is press high so the opposition can’t run through the middle so have to go wider then we foul them, on purpose. We do it constantly and well because when we push them wide and foul them we rarely get a yellow card for it because it’s not when they’re running through the middle.

It’s one of the most effective things we do

Great play Sterling in the box and cut back for Riyad to win it. Resolute performance will go for Fernandinho motm.

We are good at it, in some games anyway. That they only had 4 goal attempts tonight is testament to it, and how high we do it.

Pêp is so nice!

Just imagine if Moaninho team had to play on that pitch his pre match and after match press conference would be moan fest for an hour.
