Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

The problem we have at the moment is who do we fetch in to improve that team out there today for the Liverpool game?
Kovacic is injured, Kev isn't fully fit, Stones can only play 45 minutes if that.
Unless Pep miraculously comes up with some new tactics in a week then that team is going to get swamped at Anfield. In other words we'll get battered.

Ideally a fit Dias, Ake, Akanji and Stones/Gvardiol make up the back four. Out go Walker and Lewis. Who shields the back four though? To be honest I'd fetch that kid in who has played a couple of games. He can't do any worse than Gundogan, Bernardo or Foden on current form. They will probably have to play unless Kev's fitness is 100%, then he replaces Gundogan who is a passenger at the moment. Grealish has to come in. That's about it. Do I think that's enough to get a result at Anfield? No but I'd hope they'd make a better fist of it than the team we had out today. Sadly unless a few of that lot suddenly hit peak form we've got zero chance.

We really didn't play that badly. The difference is taking chances. For whatever reason, we struggle massively to score, whilst the opposition seem to score at every opportunity.

Yes, the midfield is a little lacking and so are the tactics here and there........but honestly, I believe when it just not going for it's just not going for you.

We have a fantastic few years.....keep the guard up, chin protected and we'll come out ready to go again.

We can't win everything all the time.
We're toothless, lightweight and have no steel and when our outball is constantly passing to Walker, you can see how lacking we are

And something that really pissed me off was after the final whistle, Grealish wandering over to the east stand and happily waving like he's just put in a MOTM hat trick game winning performance

If getting your arse kicked by a mediocre spurs team doesn't hurt, then he should never wear a City shirt again

I've accepted the league is gone. We'll be back, and back stronger.

The conspiracy theorist in me says the off field stuff is affecting the players; the realist in me says it's an exhausted, injury ravaged squad doing what they can.
So the squad is exhausted is it? Yep, I reckon it is.
And the squad is injury-ravaged is it? Yep, once again you are correct.
So why the fuck do we continue with this "small squad" tactic at a time when the players get sod all rest in the summer due to international commitments, and bugger all breaks during the season as we often go deep in the cups. It's just not possible to rely on so few players when they break so easily and have few replacements to give them a rest.
It may have worked when there was a break in odd numbered summers, but summer 2021 had Euro 2020, summer 2022 was a short break due to the corrupt decision to have a mid-season World Cup and summer 2023 was short for the same reason. The FA Cup final and Istanbul were both in June. Summer 2024 had the Euros, we've got the World Club Cup next summer and a World Cup in 2026. It's totally impossible to run a small squad system in those circumstances, especially when so many seem injury prone.

Will never leave early + will never boo. If you stay and gloat after a 4-0 win, you stay and take your medicine after a 4-0 loss. We have all got eyes this current team has got problems but we’re still city.. we never win at home and we never win away!!!!!
Such a short post but absolutely spot on.
Love it mate.

Why are we not allowed to be 'happy clappers'??
Has this team, our club, not earned the right to have a few off days? For the past 10 years we have been living the dream and that is due to the players. Ok not necessarily the players we have had on the pitch recently but they are part of our squad and the squad have done us proud for a long time.

I understand the feeling of annoyance that we are not winning but give them some slack. We have injuries, we have tired players, players who have played and played and played their hearts out because of the schedule set for them by the authorities.

So surely they are allowed a few losses. They will pick up again. We are, as I stated in a post above, still the BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD. (sorry @jimharri I feel the need for the caps as I am defending our wonderful team)

I know it is hard to get perspective when we are used to winning but we'll bounce back.

Sorry for being happy clappy but I really think they are allowed to have a little bit of off time.

JMHO. :-) :-)

First half Savinho was easily our brightest player
He gives the ball away cheaply and often when he’s under no pressure. He is also yet to show any sort of end product whatsoever. Wouldn’t get near the starting line up for me yet in all honesty.

He’s also a complete fanny, sadly. Talented no doubt, but I don’t think he’s ready for this yet.

You do know that as shite as we are we're beating the mickeys next week!
Typical city has been resurrected, we made a living of getting beat from shite teams and getting a result against the so called bigger teams?

Fucking game on.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this.

His off field antics alone should have him nowhere near the captaincy. We are in the trenches at this period in time and when we need a leader to steady the ship, Walker isn't that man.

Huge downgrade from the likes of Vinny and Fernandinho.
Been an amazing player for us a club professional (betting get is cock out on nights out) however he is not a leader or captain material at all

And Spurs didn't play that well either. Not being used to that result is going to have a chastening effect on a few of our fans but we'll have to take it on the chin.
Taking chances is the key as we had over twice as many shots as them. One issue is we rely on Haaland and when he misfires its a major issue. In the past we had Alvarez,Jesus, Stirling and Mahrez all in double figures. We can't rely on the current batch to score. Our left back looks most likely to score than the rest.

There was a moment in the second half when Neville referred to our previous side which had Aguero, Sterling, Sane, David Silva, peak KDB and Fernandinho. Everyone of those players would have started for every other PL side.

Compare that to now and I think only Haaland and Rodri are dead certs for every other PL side. I think that shows the drop in quality that we currently have.

I know stats are not everything but we have too many passengers in this current side. Grealish, Savinho, Doku, Bernardo and Gundogan will be lucky to get 10 goals and 10 assists between them in the PL this season.
That is a sobering post and not far from the truth. Been a long time since only one or two players would get into any top 6 squad. We’re used to having more than a few world-class players all over the pitch. Only Rodri and Haaland fit that description. Big rebuild head.

Alas Savinho is not Mahrez…..

Rico and Savinho need taking out of the team next week. Not a game for them.
