Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

What a team we had those seasons, 2017/18 & 18/19. Quite brilliant football played. My memory goes back to the time when David Silvia’s baby was born prematurely and was so poorly. That man played out of his skin for us during that time, when his mind was elsewhere. Amazing, I remember we beat Arsenal in the final of the League cup 1-0 then the next match we played them at the Emirates. Totally played them off the pitch that night with Silva bossing the midfield completely. What a team and what a player.
I know you say about recruitment but I don’t think there are players out there that are near the calibre of Silva, Yaya, KDB, Kompany etc.
It was better than that, we beat them 3:0 in the final and went to their place and beat them 3:0 again. My favourite ever city goal was the Sane goal. Every player was magic.

While approaching the stadium from Ashton new road i noticed only one bike in the bike racks under the bridge.
Whats puzzled me is the bike rack inside the away fans coach parking area had loads of bikes in it. Bear in mind we was playing a team from London.

First well done Jack at Everton - he now doesn't have two or three defenders converging on him constantly. That said, Everton made several monumental howler mistakes but somehow didn't concede - they win - new stadium - easy media ride. I digress. Half our team are new signings - one proper pre-season game and it showed. The WCC games don't count as pre-season - they were walking football. We have to be patient and wait for the side to gel and develop some cohesion. Yes, we were bullied and shoved off the ball easily (and Marmoush kept slipping over) - but that's the Prem shock to the system when you've only ever played in a gentler league previously. Telling that our new LB goes off injured - and Spurs then go down our left and score. I have no worries about our skill and technique - to me it's just a case of seeing whether the new guys have the Pep level winning mentality.

Just a comparison of how much the team has changed. On the left is the team that beat spurs in 2024 in the crucial title game and obvs the right from Saturday. Literally just two players from that title winning side. Completely new team we’re just gonna have to be patient.

What is the work in progress about this team? With RAN out we have 3 new players, of which we are likely only starting with 1-2. This team had more than 6 months to progress and has regressed.
Let’s see…
Trafford in goal is new
Stones hasn’t played for a good while
Ait nouri is new
Marmoush only joined in january
Nico has barely played
Rodri has missed a full season
Cherki made his first start in prem
Reijnders is new
Foden looking to find his form
Bobb missed a full season

I’d say that’s a work in progress

I would say I am amazed at how terrible some of the posts across the forum have been. But there are an awful lot of wankers on here nowadays.
Yes we did not pay well but the number of “city fans” posting utter shit and aggression is just unbelievable. I am thinking of leaving again as I just don’t get this toxic way of interacting any more.

You wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in the old Main Stand at Maine Rd. Moaners are part of the fabric of the club. It will never change and it's only an internet forum. Put them on block or skip if you're not happy. A diverse range of opinions is good, it's not a dictatorship.

What were we like for the other 10 minutes plus ;)
I got some kickback when I pointed out that this guy wasn't up to much. Can't beat an egg. I've no idea what he is, but a winger he definitely isn't. For me, it is all about quality. We had sublime players, most replaced by huge downgrades. Hardly surprising to see us drop off.

Been thinking about Saturdays result and performance and it wasn't really surprising looking at the team:

Trafford- new
Lewis- not a regular starter
Ait Nouri- new
Dias- regular
Stones- missed virtually all of last season
Gonzalez- played a handful of games
Reijnders- new
Bobb- out all last season
Marmoush- half a season, not a regular starter
Cherki- new
Haaland- regular

So 2 regulars in that 11, a totally new side which could take a long time to properly gel. In hindsight it was a mistake by Pep to play such an inexperienced side, I'm expecting a bit different at Brighton

And as per you don’t get what I am saying. The different opinions are fine, no one can always agree. It’s the bile, aggression and downright toxicity of some posters that I can’t stand. (Sorry for having a pop back)

Persobally I think Trafford will learn froM his mistake. It will be a long time before we see that again.
Never forget how the press work in this country…..they have pushed and pushed the Donnarumma rumours which has no doubt had an affect on Trafford (they know what they are doing )

Trafford is exceptional with his hands and saving shots…..he does not have to try and prove he is an Ederson clone.

I’m not sure there is anyone else with Edersons skill set so we need to adapt and stop the passing back in tight situations.

Lets face fact we only have 3 world class players now.
Over the years we had 5 or 6 per team.
Some of these lads may become world class.
Enjoy what you saw.
By all means be observant about what you are watching. Is there a point to slagging them off the abuse Lewis gets on here is wrong.
Pep picks them he thinks thier good enough.
Lets not become entitled.
Not sure how some would have managed in div 2.
Lets just enjoy the new ride with plenty of bumps in the road.

Spot on. I don't get worked up by the majority of the moaning, just take it for what it is. But for every OTT opinion there's a self righteous pompous one.

We look a million miles away from our past teams, Bernardo and gonzalez are not at the level required in our midfield. Doku can’t find any consistency which is a problem, Rodrigo? Having watched Liverpool Arsenal even Chelsea , I don’t see this squad finishing higher than those 3 sides, gut feeling without a new creative energetic centre mid, and a right back we’re gonna scrap for top 6. I really hope I’m wrong. But I will not be wrong about Gonzalez, Barry, De jong, yaya,Milner,Fernandinho, fernando, Garcia, we’re all streets better. He’s cumbersome on the ball, looks awkward, can’t look after possession…..

I was about to correct the Arse Cup final score to 3-0. Iirc Merlin, Vinnie and Sergio scored. Not in that order, then when the Beast from the East weather was in full swing we gave them another 3 drubbing at their place and Eddie actually saved a penalty. What a team in those days. We beat Spursy 4-1 in December 17 the week Merlins baby Mateo had been born prematurely. I feel a deep sense of grieving- akin to Fleetwood Mac Dreams ' what you had and what you lost'.

Let's hope things improve after Saturday, but hmm, I'm not that actually confident ATM.

Think we pay a reasonable rate for our players

For the life of me I couldn’t remember any other goal other than Sergio’s in that match. Funnily enough, I remember more Kompany outstripping Aubemeyang when Arsenal were on the attack at 0-0. My heart was in my mouth at the time. This morning I thought long and hard and then Kompany’s goal came to me. I’m going to get the match up later to refresh my memory. It’s funny how I seem to remember the away fixture in the next match better than the final.
I’m inclined to agree with you about fingers crossed for improvement. It’s going to be an interesting season ahead that’s for certain.
