Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Still pissed most about Stones & Rico for the first goal, absolute shite. Not good enough at this level. Both can hold bench next match

Today Spurs had a strong 3 man midfield (Sarr Bentancur Palhinha) in a formation that pushed up against our 1 man midfield (Nico) who needed support from his midfield teammates (Reijnders Cherki) who were tasked with supporting attack.
Did Pep see that Spurs were dominating midfield and ignored it (not wanting to admit mistakes) or did he think that we'd play over/around them.
We had 60% possession but the 40% for Spurs was used better.

Want to beat City?
Either 1) play high line have forwards press with close midfield backup and force errors as today
Or 2) sit deep with packed defence and midfield in 4-5-1 and when City lose the ball hoof it to rapid forwards to chase and win set piece chances
My thoughts too, we were dominated in midfield as they gave us no room
Maybe a few times we could have gone longer as they were smothering us but when we tried it a few times the move broke down through mistakes.
Thought the (Scouse ) ref gave them plenty of lee way early on but in the end he realised he could by and large sit back and relax as City weren't really threatening.

I hate losing, and especially against any of the cartel. I thought there was a full team of poor performances yesterday. It was Spurs 7th game including pre-season and our 3rd. They looked fitter, faster and more up for a graft. We always seem to start every season under-cooked? I know we usually get off to a decent start, but yesterday we weren't at it.

All I can say is thank goodness for it being the early kick off. If I'd had to get up in the middle of the night for that, I'd be even more peed off.

Unfortunately, Pep is stubborn and doesn't learn from his mistakes, no matter how many players he changes. A sdefense line up that lacks strong, quick-response players to counter attacks, which is a huge mistake against teams like Tottenham. Everyone knows how Tottenham play. We lost to Al Hilal in the same way. So why does Pep insist on playing the same way without using the right players to execute the plan?

Rico is great at supporting the attack, but he lacks defensive capabilities, and is often outplayed due to his short stature. The combination of Dias and Stones, who are not very fast, is a deadly combination against speedy players.
Add to that the recklessness in front of the opponent's goal. We could have scored because we had better chances, but we missed them all, while the opponent doesn't miss half chances. So there is a problem with concentration, discipline, and perhaps also mental focus.

Lack of pace killed us in all areas of the pitch yesterday. It was better after Foden and Doku came on but that was too late.

Here's an idea....try working in training who is going to take control of the ball in no mans land between 2 international Centre Half's and a young goalkeeper.....don't care who takes control but dithering about isn't going to win us many games.

Oh and when we've tried playing out from the back and it's got tight, play the ball forwards and not heap pressure on Trafford....stop making things difficult.

All craft and no graft, cross field balls kill rico everytime, all guilty of mistakes and caught on the ball, totally overrun the whole game, everyone should be pressing us as it’s a doddle to do.
We look totally weak in the tackle and void of any plan b.
Nice footballers are all fine and well but fight and legs is almost non existent.

I love Citeh... But with heavy heart i muss say this. (1) The reason why we concede first was due to playing fucking highline with slow defenders... Last season we concede shit ton because of this and we learn nothing (23) James Trafford is a good goalkeeper ( he saved us loosing 0:3 with that brutal save at the end of the match, i like our Eddie but i think he dont catch that shot...) J.Trafford is one of our own, i want him as our No.1... Ok, he fucked it up little bit when we concede the second but not because of him... Its the idiotic tactics why we concede!!! I dont have a clue how big pressure must be on your shoulders when 53k people in the stadium and other millions all over the world look at you what you are going to do... Why the fuck we dont kick the fucking ball 1mile away from our goalkick when the oposition players press us like fuck? And even when James f.ked it up, first he throwing himself under Richarlison and moved the ball little bit to the side and there was a chance kicking the fucking ball away but no lazy slow fucking snail movement **** from our defenders was there to help him... fuck off (3) And our attack...I love Erling a lot, but why we dont try be smarter and play sometime like this... First half attack Omar , Phil , Oskar.. second half Jeremy , Erling, Rico or Savio... (4) And now something, when we sold Savio to Spurs we gonna be idiots... Doctor evil can buy shitsandwich from us maybe :)

Fucked.

I love the man but let’s face it, Pep has done fuck all in the past ten months to solve any of our issues.
Weak as fuck, always looking to concede on the break and can’t break down any solid defences.

We will fight for CL place this season and I hope we get it and can maybe try again for the title next season if we spend well.
Spend well, here lies the problem. We haven’t spent well for quite a while, out of the new signings in the last 2;windows, 2 were brought off today and 2 were nowhere near the starting line up

I thought we were alright until RAN went off, then we conceded and looked like we’d never seen a football before after that. The second half in particular was wretched from players of this quality. Spurs didn’t have to get out of second gear to keep us quiet.
We should have been a couple up before they scored.

Once Spurs took the lead we never looked like scoring, the team just disintergrated.

Very worrying how poor we were in that second half.

How do you stop opposition playing that ball down the line when we have a high line on the half way line if we don’t press get tight on every player? Because once there is a free man to play that ball to players who are faster than all our back line we will be in trouble multiple times in a game!? We play someone who is fast at the back we have a chance other wise we will see the same to top teams who work press as well as spurs did! Frank plays man marking without the ball and when there player receives the ball our about to they are on him in an instant! Have to say though don’t think we will see a team press us like that at home again! Spurs under Frank now look like a Brentford team on crack!

A very bad day at the office. Players were off. No movement into the space for the second pass. The inability to work past their press. Very disappointing.

Yep, we probably didn't need at our best, or have full match fitness to win at Wolves, who, their fans would tell you, have generally had a poor pre season ...... but it definitely told against Tottenham who just had more 'zip' that we did, they were faster to the ball, more alert, stronger ..... we seemed to start with a fair bit of gusto, and had early chances, but just as quickly it all fizzled out ... and in that second half, when we have often so fought back and overcome teams in days gone by, we basically offered nothing, and made the job easy for Tottenham.

4 new signings were brought off all be it one with an injury one was left sitting on the bench and 2 are out on loan. We are buying quantity not quality
