Spurs (H) Post Match Thread

No, I am saying your opinion of something can change when you have more accurate information about that something.

Just because Pep *has* been a huge backer of VAR (the concept) doesn’t mean he’ll *always* be a huge backer of VAR (the reality).

fair enough

Had a chance to sleep and calm my tits a bit. Fine(ish) now with yesterday as long as the silly new handball rule and VAR are applied equally to all. My concern is that like the shirt pulling in the box thing a season or two ago it will be applied harshly at the beginning of the season and then quietly ignored as the FA realise it's a shit idea. Onwards and upwards and all that, I'm actually more concerned that the spurs goals were a bit soft, and we didn't bury more of the 30 shots we created. Not sure what the answer is tbh, we play fantastic football.

By the same logic though, I don’t think it can be assessed until we’ve seen it deal with similar situations for other clubs.

The handball one, there’s already been a precedent in the Wolves game last week. That’s just a ridiculously stupid law.
Perfectly fair point and one I’ve made.

Not contradictory to my overall point, though, which is even backers of VAR can (and probably will, with this current implementation) change their minds as it is used and a universe of data is created.

Exactly. Yesterday’s post-match interview was a clear indication from Pep that although he backs (backed) the idea of VAR, there is a clear issue with the application of it.

VAR aside, we had 30 attempts, 30! scored 2 goals and were sucker punched as per by spurs (who have a habit of doing that to us). Completely annihilated them yet have litte to show for it.

I'm still slightly worried about our vulnerability at the back. As good as we are going forward, defensive lapses will punish us if we don't put away chances.

To say that when a ball grazes a player's arm and there is no signicant alteration of its original trajectory is "handball" is a pure piece of fuckeries. It's also an arrant misuse of the English language. And I object to that. Vehemently.

Still absolutely gutted over this. Somebody please hold me.

If we play shit or get out played, fine. It hurts, but there's an explanation.

Drawing like this despite being all over them, comfortably, to the point where we were making them look like a schoolboy side at times.... is very hard to take.

Agreed. And not to mention the fact that it allows for rampant cheating by officials who can deem that a ball touched a players arm whether it did or not. Whereas if it has to obvious with some kind of control or change of trajectory, they cannot cheat so easily.

Yep - 2 goals conceded from 3 shots is wank by anyone’s standard.
