i love the queen but i dont think sport should be cancelled especially after the shit couple of years we've had and the shit one we're now in the middle of, sport brings people together and you can forget about the gas bill and the price of food and all the doom and gloom for a couple of hours and be with your mates and get out of the house and have a pint and a chat, it's the only time for some to do that, so it's a no from me to cancel

As someone not british, putting one person so far beyond others seems a bit weird, but culture is culture I guess.

Would think it is more sensible having the weekends games dedicated to her, wasn't she a bit of a football fan?
Yes, better to have the weekend's games dedicated to her. Also lay remembrance wreaths on the centre circle. Given the worldwide coverage of our Premiership, this would have been a far better (and positive) mark of respect to a great lady, seen throughout the world. The stupid powers-that-be missed a huge opportunity here. The Queen did her job brilliantly. Those now representing her, are complete idiots who don't know what they're doing.

If they decide to cancel this weekend’s fixtures, I’ll be fine with that.

If they decide to go ahead with the fixtures, I’ll be fine with that.

If they go ahead and we have a minute’s silence and sing some anthems, I’ll observe and join in, even as a non-Royalist. And I don’t mind those who don’t want to joint in staying outside the stadium or on the concourse while this goes on if they don’t want to join in.

But don’t be a needy WUM and purposely begging “ooh look at me, I’m an edgy ****, look at me, no please look at me not observing this” by turning your back or sitting down going on your phone or being Scouse and booing the anthem if you don’t agree with it.

For me the sensible option is to cancel next weekend's sporting events but not this one's. It gives a week to make contingency plans etc.
Yeah I think that would be best. I think the funeral might be next Saturday anyway (on the tenth day of mourning).

I think there's a bit of projection going on in that last part. If I find myself at a church funeral and the hymns break out, the reason I don't join in isn't because I'm being an edgy ****, it's because I don't believe in the gesture and I feel like joining in would be disingenuous and, in turn, disrespectful. They're not my customs and they're not my beliefs.

You shouldn't feel the need for everyone else around you to follow suit in order to be content with the gesture of respect you've chosen to show.
