Obviously not ideal situation, death of Queen Elizabeth is horrendously disheartening, I actually have tried to observe a bit and first of all she was wise, she possessed wisdom, which basically is to know what you do not know. In her case to refrain from actions or views which would be maybe inappropriate or whatever in democracy. To not pretend to know better when You are confronted with various problems in areas, that You do not have knowledge about. It shall not be seemed as granted with everybody, many are easily tempted by position/authority.

I am sure, that it means much more for British people, rightly so and I may only pay my respects for emotional side of it, which I probably lack a bit.

Moreover, also from my point of view, last 70 years were rather about good political decisions in Great Britain, the country has developed greatly, level of life is relatively very high (hovewer I know we prefere to moan worldwide, but almost everywhere life became at least a bit more comfortable, cause of various reasons with technology up there). I would love GB to not quit EU, although absolutely have no knowledge, whether Queen has or should have had any impact to make it otherwise since society voted for it.

However I just can not see a single advantage of paying respects for Queen Elizabeth in strictly mourning and silent circumstances. Why? Is this about reflection? We will mention Her many times more when witnessing minute of honour at stadium or wherever, than pretending for 8 days that we do not nothing but reminding of history, unity and so on. Sport events, cultural are great place to really have this moment, greet Her together, clap with power, take a look at a displayed picture and so on.

Logistics of operation are very important. Shifting games which may collide in any way with funeral, announcements, special documentary auditions or whatever - appropriate form for everything. This obviously shall have utmost priority in every regard.

But dropping everything, postponing? For what exactly? People would work, play, go outside, spend time with families anyway. Tbh I find hard to understand why best imaginable position for 8 days shall be sitting at home in grief. I find hard to believe, that Queen would have dreamed about such a scenario. Those who like it that way - are obviously welcomed to do it.

Not to mention those people, who are making hundreds of miles, booked hotels and everything. Do they or anyone for that matter interfere with Queen’s great memory if they attend a football game or concert? Or maybe really take a hint from this ceremony and read something about her reign? That would be most valuable.

Anyway, RIP Queen, sincere respect.

are So maybe we should all just get on tik tok and say fuck it then. You don’t think after 70 years she deserves some respect? I’m afraid youre in a minority there, unless of course youve been out polling the nation this morning. For what it’s worth I’d like the sport to carry on and have a minutes silence before the match, of course if you want to sing City through that let’s see how far you get in before you get filled in.
Spot on!

For what it's worth, we're in agreement here.

I think it would be a better show of respect to have stadiums packed to the rafters with thousands of people all publicly showing their respect to HM. A minute's silence, the national anthem, black armbands.

The Royals aren't my thing and I can't confess to feeling anything towards the Queen either in life or death. But if I was sad about her dying, I'd want lots of public shows of respect and football stadiums are a great place to host them.

They have independence you pillock.
Yes you are correct. Poor choice of words on my part. I was inferring they are itching to get rid of her as their monarch and Could of bought you a pint before the match for your fact check but this option will possibly removed so we can have rinse and repeat royal propaganda and all the suckers up vying for attention .

And you’d condone “filling someone in” for not observing a non mandatory minute’s silence would you ?

Do you actually believe what you are writing ?. We have never lost a ruling monarch so the people and country do not know how to react this is the biggest national even in my life time and I’m 52 . Can you babe anything bigger ?
Never?

The last time I looked there have a very long string of reigning monarchs dying in office. Ok the last one happened 70 years ago. The one who did not die in office was Edward VIII and he was forced out due to alleged fascist sympathies and marrying a divorcee.

It happens. I suspect that it will occur again fairly soon.

Even though City have given me far more joy than any of the royal family, even though they've mattered to me for as long as the Queen reigned, I believe it's the right thing to do, having no sport for a few days. It's a time for mourning not only the Queen but also the end of an era, albeit an era that had been coming to a close for some time. And for affectionately remembering a time and an England that I grew up in. We'll move on, me and family and City, because you try to live life in the present & future, but in many ways I will always enjoy the memory of a young Elizabeth II handing Bert Trautmann his Cup winner's medal more than the anticipation of City v Spurs on Saturday or whenever that happens.
R.I.P., Lizzie, and say hi to Bert again.
How is having no sport for a few days helping us to mourn? I think you will find that some sports will go on, particularly Horse Racing. Already this forum is showing that there is disappointment at what is being imposed upon us. The Queen deserves respect and to be acknowledged for what she achieved but to some her passing will be remembered for what the powers that be have forced upon the people. Not sure how people will view the monarchy in the light of this. Queen Elizabeth did a lot for the monarchy, both here and abroad. But those now telling us how to mourn are not acting in anyone's best interests. Not easy for Charles to follow her but I think he will carry on her good work well. He is also a caring person. RIP Elizabeth.

He's just fantasising about what would happen if someone went out of their way to go against his traditional values.

Realistically, I'd just let everyone get on with it and stay sat having a quick browse on my phone. I'll voice my opinion on here but I'm not trying to get in the way of others who feel the need to pay their respects. Not for me, though.

Shambles at Tynecastle last night
Decided to have a minutes silence at start of second half
2 nutters shouted fuck the Queen
Folk then booed and shouted them down whilst others then started singing GSTQ too drown them out!!!
That got more boos and a few fisticuffs

Slightly different circumstances or am I totally misremembering
Very different circumstances. She may not have achieved as much as the Queen has but she was equally loved during her short life. Loved in a different way. Maybe because of her vulnerability which is something most of us have and can identify with. The Queen will be loved for the devoted service she gave to her country for so long. Two great ladies.

Yeah I read about that. Bit much for my tastes but it is reflective of how not everyone felt the same way about her and why, in my mind, a forced period of national mourning is silly.
