Spurs Thread 2012

Nothing wrong with that result and turn out from spurs once spurs went 1-0 down they stepped it up and won comfortably

Droopy's post-match rambling was the quintessential nonsense-cum-excuse routine, thus:

"[But] we came in at half time at 0-0...[but]we could have been at least 3-0: we hit the woodwork and their keeper was making saves."

Plenty of empty seats at WHL tonight even with 6k Shamrock fans. Good atmosphere though.

There were 4,000 Shamrock Rovers fans there.

Crowd was 33,500.

That's perfectly respectable for a Europa League game against part timers - especially since it was always going to be a Spurs reserve team on show and Redknapp has been keen to stress over and over that he's treating the competition as a low priority. No real incentive for the fans to take it seriously either.

But prices were still £25-30 a ticket.

Can't think of many clubs who would have drawn a better crowd in the circumstances.
Take it you didn't watch the match?

33,500 is the most laughable attendance figure I've seen for years.

Always get suspicious when it appears to be a rounded number. The top tiers were pretty much half empty all the way around the ground. There was a neutral section for UK based Irish fans so difficult to judge the amount fans there not supporting Spurs.

And does anyone seriously believe they got a bigger gate against Shamrock Rovers last night than for their first ever Champions League group game last season which was 32,518?

Don't believe everything you read!

I agree that it didn't look as if there were only 3,000 empty seasts last night.

I think 33,500 was the actual number of tickets sold, including season tickets in which this match was included in the overall price.

Was it just for this match they were included? Says for next two EL games those ST holders on the AutoCup scheme will be sold tickets automatically, just like our CL scheme. And that's a lot of no shows considering they were all paying £30 extra for the match.

What excuse? We won the game.

We did play pretty well in the first half, Defoe and Pav should have scored really, and one of our players was rugby tackled in the box...What exactly is your problem with the post match interview?

I am not surprised clubs struggle to sell out Europa Cup games. Prior to the quarter-finals it is a dull, low quality competition, where teams use it as a competition to give youngsters and reserves some time on the pitch. I found it difficult to get excited about it whne we were in the competition last year.

IMO any crowd over 25k is very good.

With Spurs having a 1.7m waiting list, I would have expected a sell-out. That reminds, Spurs fans on GG were stating we are a joke club because we haven't sold out every home game this season....

Upper tiers were most certainly not half empty. There was a big section of the upper tier in the south stand which was left empty to segregate the "neutral" section. That probably accounted for a thousand seats or so. Other than that, the empty seats were dotted around - no doubt season ticket holders who didn't bother to turn up for what was, in effect, a reserve game. Probably looked more empty to you because the majority of those who didn't bother to turn up were in the West upper - which is the side that appears on TV.

As to the Champions League games, I'm sure you're aware of the fact that WHL's capacity (as at all older stadiums with seats at pitch level) was reduced by some 3-4000.

Stop stirring, manc!

As I'm sure you're well aware, the majority who replied to that thread on GG disagreed with the original poster.

-- Fri Sep 30, 2011 3:33 pm --

The first two cup games - be they European games, Carling Cup or FA Cup - are included in the price of the season ticket.

Season ticket holders have to buy tickets for subsequent cup games. But to save hassle and to ensure that they get their seat, they can sign up to an autopay scheme which means that their card is automatically charged whenever further cup games go on sale.
