Re: Harry Redknapp one of the worst managers in PL?

“If they don’t enjoy the football being played at the lane, they don’t know football,” snarled Redknapp. Yet only one side (Birmingham) in the Premier League played more long balls than Spurs last season

According to Four Four Two, Spurs suffered more injuries than any other side last season – a massive 61 individual injuries.

These bits stood out the most to me.

He is a media whore who they, unfortunately, lap up. Last season Spuds were supposed to be an "attacking" and "entertaining" team yet they scored less goals than defensive, boring City. Judging by his current transfer targets I look forward to them ending up as mid table nobodies.

There's probably a lot to be said for making the players feel good about themselves and the game. That was certainly Joe Mercer's outlook but he had Allison to sort out the tactics.

Harry doesn't believe in any sort of football "science" and that's shown up my the fact that early in the season, he's got 3 of 13 midfield players out already, one (Huddlestone) half-fit and three suffering injuries during the game. That says to me that something is fundamentally wrong.

The game has changed but 'Arry hasn't. He's an old-fashioned manager, a wheeler-dealer and a media "personality". He's also an expert in deflecting blame away from himself and his methods. That won't wash any more if you want to sit at the top table.

I hadn't realised that most of the better players in their squad were already there when he took over. Nearly all his signings have been duds, apart from VdV and possibly Sandro. Just goes to prove he'll do a job getting a club out of trouble but can't take them forward on a long-term basis.
Just to pile on old 'Arry by using your post as a springboard, I recall reading that he didn't know who Sandro was and he had no idea Van der Vaart was being signed. Granted, that may be him spinning tales to seem like a lucky chap.

To address the thread in general, the big difference between Mancini and Redknapp is in my opinion highlighted by our disastrous outing at Anfield last season. Mancini came out and took full responsibility. He didn't absolve the players. He demanded they take their lumps, too, but he didn't deflect at the players. He took responsibility. Everyone always talks about how great a man-manager Redknapp is, and he does get the players feeling good and motivated, but that only lasts so long. He seems to have a two-year shelf life. After that, the motivation doesn't seem to stick and his lack of tactics, his throwing players under the bus, and his transfer wheeling and dealing takes its toll.

Even if Mancini didn't succeed, I would feel he did his level best to leave the club in a better position than when he arrived. I feel the same about Hughes. I can't say that about Redknapp.

“I do not understand players drinking until they are drunk,” he famously said last October. “We do not have that culture in Italy. We would prefer to go off with a woman.

Spot on, Bobby.

Re: Harry Redknapp one of the worst managers in PL?

Even the die hard spurs fan in my office is abit embarrassed by the way he is always talking about players on Sky. When was the last time he left the training ground with his car window done up and driven past reporters without stopping?
Last night he even told them he will be in early today. if i was his passenger i'd think "oh ffs not again" every time he stops to talk.

I thought it was funny when he talked about Crouch to Stoke rumours and said it doesnt help players with such talk. This from him who adds "terrific player, top lad, course id love him here" to any and i mean ANY player mentioned and also coming from the master of tapping up himself.

Levy probably hasnt given him any money as he knows Redknapp will walk out of Tottenham in an instant if he has a chance at the England Job. he whored himself to it after the World Cup if you remember.

Anyhow, whens the court date.

I think his strengths mean he would actually be suited to the England job, would also be funny watching his mates in the press tearing him a new one.

The English sports media's love affair with 'Arry will last all of two minutes when the England team start performing like Spurs.
They'll be all over him like a cheap suit as soon as England start losing. 'Arry for England will be disastrous.
