He's still significantly quicker than 90% of defenders and midfielders, though. And I'd argue that pace isn't even his strongest asset. He has superb technique. You don't consistently score the kind of goals he has throughout his career without it.
Bale is a far better player than Sanchez ever was, though. And, after the way he was treated in Madrid (by the club, by the media and by the fans), he will be hugely motivated and have a massive point to prove.
This is the big question. It's a big gamble, no doubt. But if Spurs can get 20-30 games a season from him, it's a gamble that could pay off very well.
