It seems that the eye-watering levels of incompetence on the pitch at Spurs has somewhat surprised the PL.The problem is, as we found to our cost, once the rot sets in, it’s very hard to rid yourselves of it.
This isn’t a one-off for Spurs by any means; they finished just above the relegation places last season for a reason. This term is a continuation of the gradual decline ever since the Champions League final.
If they do avoid relegation this season, nothing suggests they won’t find themselves in the same situation next year.
Just like with the rags, it could be problems further up the chain of command inside the club than the footballing activities.
The PL have turned blind eyes to Liverpool’s £50 mil imaginary stadium costs, the long term interest-free owner bungs at arsenal, the rags £40 mil covid claims and their staggering billion pound levels of debt, and now Chelsea’s litany of corruption for which they have been punished with a slap on the wrist. All very bad but all these clubs at least survived by being half decent on the field.
Spurs are the odd-men out, having at least, not been financially inept, (as far as we know) but have been incredibly incompetent on the pitch.
The only way that they, as the other legacy club who obviously must never be allowed to see Carrow Road or St. Andrews on a wet Tuesday, can be saved is for the PL to ensure that decisions go the ‘right way’ on the field.
Meanwhile we are being vilified and dragged through inquiry after inquiry for something they may have happened a long time ago and is no longer of any relevance.
It’s a funny old game!
