Squad Numbers - 2016/17

Is he autistic?
Bravo can't be #1 for this season anyway as Hart has been in a PL matchday squad but hasn't officially left the club. For similar reasons Gundogan can't get #8. Either can have #14, #28 or #20 though, if they want it. At least I think that's how it works.

Our first team numbers for this season, not including players out on loan, will look a bit like this:

3. Sagna
4. Kompany
5. Zabaleta
6. Fernando
7. Sterling
9. Nolito
10. Aguero
11. Kolarov
12. Bravo
13. Caballero
15. Navas
16. Gundogan
17. De Bruyne
18. Delph
19. Sané
21. Silva
22. Clichy
24. Stones
25. Fernandinho
30. Otamendi
42. Touré
54. Gunn
69. Angelino
72. Iheanacho
75. García

Bravo and Gundogan still need to choose numbers, but I'd bet on Gundogan taking #16 while Bravo will probably take either #12 or something random and obscure.

Will be interesting to see which of the promoted youngsters (if there are any) plus Iheanacho opt for switches to lower numbers in the near future. Kelechi can't switch anymore and I'm guessing would have by now if he wanted to. Also want to see what number Jesus takes when he gets back from loan.

On another note, that's only 25 players. We had a big squad a week ago but with all the loans that looks much more like a PL side squad size. I know Guardiola prefers a squad of more like 18 players but that won't work in this league and with our injury record. With 3 Keepers, 4 Centrebacks, 2 Leftbacks, 2 Rightbacks, 2 Holding Midfielders, 4 Central Midfielders, 2 Right Midfielders, 2 Left Midfielders, 2 Attacking Midfielders and 2 Strikers that's a pretty balanced squad as far as I can tell.

Can a another player have the no8 if its been used in a league game, and the no1 used in a champs league game ? Thought once they had been used that was it for the season ?

Andy Carroll had to wear a different number (29) after transferring to Liverpool as Torres had already worn the #9 that season same as Adebayor during his loan spell at Real Madrid (6, 28 in CL games).

100% not true that mate sorry.

You can have a squad number that another player has had if that player has left in the same season. Carroll was number 9 for Liverpool the day Torres left.

If they leave permanently then this is completely correct, but not if they leave on loan, because they're technically still a player for that club. That's how I understand it.

This is from Wikipedia....

Players are not generally allowed to change their number during a season, although a player may change number if he changes clubs mid-season. Players may change squad numbers between seasons. Occasionally, when a player has two loan spells at the same club in a single season (or returns as a permanent signing after an earlier loan spell), an alternative squad number is needed if the original number assigned during the player's first loan spell has been reassigned by the time the player returns.

I agree, that's how I understand it as well...

so I don't think Bravo can #1 or Gundogan #8, more than likely they will be #12 & #16

Who makes up these rules? Surely it doesn't matter at all if the number a player wears in a game doesn't match the FIFA 2016 game.
