So as far as I can tell we are one of the last PL clubs left that haven't released their squad numbers for this season yet. I'm not sure, but I think we have to do it at some point before kick-off tomorrow. There's not many talking points here, but possibly some players will change numbers. Also, what number will Gundogan take (looking like 16), and will Iheanacho change to a lower number? I was thinking Gundogan waited so long without announcing it because he knows Nasri's on the transfer list and has his eye on number 8. It may also tell us if Pep's decided on giving any youngsters some more game time.

I know most people don't really care about squad numbers, but surely someone else must be interested in them, and why we haven't announced them yet.

Looks like they might be waiting on the future of Nasri & the 8 shirt before deciding Gundogan's number as he'd prefer the 8

Although I did just notice the official PL website lists Gundogan as #16, and Gunn is the only youngster (#54) on there.

We totally fucked Nacho over IMO. He obviously wants the 9 and is much more of a 9 than Nolito will ever be. I expect he will stick to 72.

8 is our most iconic number, I have never been happy with Nasri wearing it. I would give it to Gundogan in a heartbeat and tell Nasri to do one.

11 is another problem number. No way should Kolarov have been given that number. Should go to Sane IMO.

Either Otta or Denayer should take 2.

Genuinely think Bravo might have missed out on Sunday because he wants the number 1 shirt and they couldn't give it to him until Hart had gone.

1 Bravo
2
3 Sagna
4 Kompany
5 Zabaleta
6 Fernando
7 Sterling
8 Gundogan (I am aware he's been linked with 16 but they haven't announced anything which made me think he wants the 8)
9 Nolito
10 Agüero
11 Kolarov (that's so wrong at centre back it hurts)
12
13 Caballero
14
15 Navas
16 possibly Gundogan
17 de Bruyne (could he move to his preferred 14 next season?)
18 Delph
19 Sané
20
21 Silva
22 Clichy
23 RIP MVF
24 Stones
25 Fernandinho
28 Denayer (unlikely to stick around - Sunderland most likely destination)
30 Otamendi
42 Toure (disappointed but unsurprised that he hasn't moved on)
50 Maffeo
53 Adarabioyo
54 Gunn
69 Angelino
72 Iheanacho

That's what's been used so far for competitive games I believe, will likely be announced tomorrow.

Can a another player have the no8 if its been used in a league game, and the no1 used in a champs league game ? Thought once they had been used that was it for the season ?

As far as I'm aware numbers can be reused - the rules as I understand them say that once a player wears one number they can't wear another but I don't think numbers are restricted to one user

Don't know went we not able to have a no 9 as it was negrados even tho he was at Valencia ?

Is he autistic?
Bravo can't be #1 for this season anyway as Hart has been in a PL matchday squad but hasn't officially left the club. For similar reasons Gundogan can't get #8. Either can have #14, #28 or #20 though, if they want it. At least I think that's how it works.

Our first team numbers for this season, not including players out on loan, will look a bit like this:

3. Sagna
4. Kompany
5. Zabaleta
6. Fernando
7. Sterling
9. Nolito
10. Aguero
11. Kolarov
12. Bravo
13. Caballero
15. Navas
16. Gundogan
17. De Bruyne
18. Delph
19. Sané
21. Silva
22. Clichy
24. Stones
25. Fernandinho
30. Otamendi
42. Touré
54. Gunn
69. Angelino
72. Iheanacho
75. García

Bravo and Gundogan still need to choose numbers, but I'd bet on Gundogan taking #16 while Bravo will probably take either #12 or something random and obscure.

Will be interesting to see which of the promoted youngsters (if there are any) plus Iheanacho opt for switches to lower numbers in the near future. Kelechi can't switch anymore and I'm guessing would have by now if he wanted to. Also want to see what number Jesus takes when he gets back from loan.

On another note, that's only 25 players. We had a big squad a week ago but with all the loans that looks much more like a PL side squad size. I know Guardiola prefers a squad of more like 18 players but that won't work in this league and with our injury record. With 3 Keepers, 4 Centrebacks, 2 Leftbacks, 2 Rightbacks, 2 Holding Midfielders, 4 Central Midfielders, 2 Right Midfielders, 2 Left Midfielders, 2 Attacking Midfielders and 2 Strikers that's a pretty balanced squad as far as I can tell.

Andy Carroll had to wear a different number (29) after transferring to Liverpool as Torres had already worn the #9 that season same as Adebayor during his loan spell at Real Madrid (6, 28 in CL games).

100% not true that mate sorry.

You can have a squad number that another player has had if that player has left in the same season. Carroll was number 9 for Liverpool the day Torres left.

If they leave permanently then this is completely correct, but not if they leave on loan, because they're technically still a player for that club. That's how I understand it.

This is from Wikipedia....

Players are not generally allowed to change their number during a season, although a player may change number if he changes clubs mid-season. Players may change squad numbers between seasons. Occasionally, when a player has two loan spells at the same club in a single season (or returns as a permanent signing after an earlier loan spell), an alternative squad number is needed if the original number assigned during the player's first loan spell has been reassigned by the time the player returns.

I agree, that's how I understand it as well...

so I don't think Bravo can #1 or Gundogan #8, more than likely they will be #12 & #16

Who makes up these rules? Surely it doesn't matter at all if the number a player wears in a game doesn't match the FIFA 2016 game.
