Squad Numbers - 2022/23

2021/22 revenue will no doubt be down a bit but 2022/23 will be up by the same amount if shirts go on sale after 1 July.
I heard clubs make more when they hold back on releasing numbers because demand is bottled and sudden, when they give out the shirt number. Some financial term was mentioned but I didn't recall its name.

I’m personally waiting on the Haaland #9 to be officially announced to get the kit. Do we think we’ll know soon? I’m assuming City won’t announce it out of respect to Jesus until his transfer is official and they give him a goodbye.

I just want to make sure I got the shirt by July 23rd for the exhibition here in the US. I know if I order a custom Haaland #9 kit, he will for some reason take #15 instead

I always thought 4 and 5 are the two centre backs and 6 is defensive midfielder.
There's a tradition in England for 4 and 6 to be used by central defenders or defensive midfielders, but 5 usually by central defenders.

I think this stems from old WM formations in the 50s and 60s, maybe some older blues could elaborate.

4 and 6 in the old days of 3 5 2 were wing halves, so Doyle and Oakes in the late 60’s, I suppose closest now is defensive mid. 5 was centre half, so George Heslop when I was a kid. Mike Doyle became a centre back late in his career, early 70’s I think, but then again I am a senile FOC

When I first started watching City in the early 90s I remember the team played a 442 and the numbers were

2 RB
3 LB
5 CH
6 CH
4 CM
10 CM
7 RM
11 LM
8 CF
9 CF

Sometimes they did that, they changed it on regular basis, one week number 10 is a striker, next week an anchor man.

Numbers and names are all fair enough but the badge is the blessing for those who wear it. Be nice to have a more traditional starting XI with numbers below XI predominantly featured.
