Spot on Dave. De Jong is a very good tackler and keeps it very simple but in the middle of the park you need someone who links defence with attack and Barry is that player. He can sit alongside De Jong with Ireland in front but also have the freedom to get forward while De Jong stays back and protects the back four
As for what happens with Vinny - He goes back to centre half, he's nowhere near as good as De Jong and Barry when in possession

Johnson would've been playing every week, if fit and committed. There has been a big problem linking defence (and defensive midfield) with the attacking players all season. yes, de jong can pass and he keeps the ball moving well, and yes, Ireland is a little all-action hero, but we haven't had a linker all season. It means that when we've been under pressure there has been a huge gap between defence/defensive mids and forwards/attacking mids. Has shown itself badly in many away games.
The idea behind buying Barry is to plug this gap, obviously it suggests that the management are unsure of Johnson's prospects of playing regularly, but with his injury difficulties who can blame them? It's a real shame as he is quite simply an immense talent.

Good move for both teams. Man City will get a good distributor of the ball who can slow things down who is used to the English Game.
Villa get between £12-15m for a player with 1 year left on his contract. Our central midfield was severely lacking pace and creativity (eg you guys have Ireland) we have Petrov who can retain the ball and has just signed a new contract, we can now replace Barry.
So it is a great move all round. He will be a great signing for you!
