Shocking news about my old school. The crimes date back to the 60s, 70s, before my time but does anyone know the teachers arrested?

Roman Catholic school? Child-abuse scandal? Who'd have thought it?

Prepare for a torrent of posts full of contrition of those who defend the faith where this sickening act is prevelant.

Or maybe not.

Fucking sickens me how this will be treated with kid gloves as if religion has any kind of warrant to deserve such reverence.

I feel terrible for the victims and hope they can get some semblance of justice and closure at minimum.

..wasn't that the problem in the first place?...

It's odd how some events remind you of past events. My old school is roman catholic and a lot of the teachers were brothers. I don't mean black guys from da hood, they were like priests who were teachers as a profession. One of them used to stand at the doorway of the bus on the pretence that he was ensuring that boys got on in single file in an orderly manner. He was, however, rubbing himself up by "accident" against the lads until one of the 6th formers shouted at him, "I can see what you're doing. Pack it in before I report you".
If he would have reported him, he'd probably have got strapped, slippered or expelled. I got strapped for suggesting catholicism was dangerous and hypocritical.

Yeah I heard about this yesterday, the person arrested always struck me as the odd type.

Sadly this will tarnish the reputation of the school and the church nearby.

Child abusers manipulate themselves into positions to gain access to children. Child abuse is not a religious thing. Being Catholic does not de facto make you a child abuser.

An agency was set up in the wake of the Soham murders in order to ensure background checks are carried out on people who work with children and vulnerable adults. So, if you go for a job now as a care worker, you apply to this agency and they provide a certificate that confirms there is nothing on file that would preclude you from working with such groups.

I understand that agency will also be carrying out what are called retrospective checks - ie getting those who have been working with kids prior to the agency being set up to go through the background check process.

It is felt that when this process begins, they will be numerous vacancies within the teaching profession, amongst others, at schools of all shapes, sizes, faith and non faith as various people decide to choose early retirement etc if you see what I mean.

i went to the primary school there, that's now every school I went to tarnished for the same reason.

Is that reason because you attended said schools?

;)
