Stadium Turnstile Upgrades

Does anyone know if any other club use this type of entry? It is obviously not just for staff and the future seasons look as though facial recognition will be used to stop friends or family using your ticket if you are unable to attend through illness etc. If so another barrier put in place between the club and fans.

It is being used in schools too, I don't remember being asked for something so important to be implemented just to help businesses and law enforcement.

Yup, our passes on our phones are so advanced that they will just tap and go ... and staff's credential are paper cards printed hanging around their necks that they need to "show" to a camera to get access ... they can't have NFCs or digital cards/fobs or anything like that.

How does it currently work? Do they call a staff member over?

I find it hard to believe these cameras are sleeping the rest of the time. Unless it is activated by something else.

We'll see (no pun intended), but I think we all know where this is heading.

There is a queue every game at the portakabin SW of the ground of people whose phones won't let them in.

They are given a QR code on a piece of paper, low quality print out on a little slip like you would get as a receipt from an ATM. It seems it to be overkill when staff could just use a QR code on their badge.

That used to happen to me about once in every two games going in, a steward always manually let me though,I didn't have to go to a portakabin.
It got that bad ,they issued me with a old style physical card for last season, only after several phone calls from them and 2 visits to the help desk, where there technical expert tried everything in vain to make my mobile work.

We seem to have this problem with one of our phones when my son transfers it if he can’t attend. And a steward just waves them through. But I wonder, now city seem to be hotting up on games attended, whether it still registers as attended if it’s not scanned?

first game at home this season v ipswich,my phone didn't work as usual going in,I'd been getting pretty angry with
it the previous years, on the monday after the game I got an email reminding me about attending games, even though I did attend, between then and the next home game they had issued me with the old style card.

That's it in a nutshell but some people don't see it. One of my neighbours works in a facility developing and creating all this shit and he said digital currency and facial recognition will be everywhere soon.
Once it is and perfected it's as good as total control of the population. Every single shop, venue etcetera will have it. Persona non grata? Computer says no.

Yes it’s the next step after the new ‘having to attend 10 games in person or we’ll take your ticket off you’. Let’s make sure the person is the actual season card holder.

We've just introduced it at work as part of the "clocking-in" system. To be fair, it works really well and has improved the speed and accuracy of the system (usually failed about 1 in 2 before) so I can see it would be quicker. However, obviously face recognition is the way this is headed.

What I'm not sure is how they will deal with those who have bought tickets from one of the nine "official ticket agencies" or other one offs, or away fans - they're not going to have photos on their tickets are they? How would they deal with friends and family? All of these things suggest that there's some serious changes needed before they can enforce face recognition for everyone...

That's it. No giving your phone to a mate as you'll get an email similar to this.

"On the 25th August 2025 your mobile season pass was activated to enter the stadium at 14:26. However our facial recognition cameras detected it wasn't actually you using the pass ( See attached photograph) As a result your season card is now suspended until further notice while we investigate this breach of our policy further."

here we fucking go......

"He did mention that one of the things they've got there is that they link it up to the local police database so if anyone's wanted for crime they can get done, that sounds a bit big brothery to me".

Err, just a bit! Suppose it depends on the crime, if you've got serious offenders in there then fair enough lock them up, but being drunk and disorderly is a crime - can you imagine people going to the game after a few beers and getting lifted!

TBH when I saw the email I hadn't thought about the camera recognition on faces so much, my initial thought was that I hope it is an actual improvement and they aren't gonna have these fancy turnstiles but far less of them meaning the queueing times to be as bad or worse. Typical City if you will

I thought the facial recognition at wembley for half time beers was good the other week - walk in scan your card grab your own beers and away you go. Using technology to reduce queuing times has got to be a massive plus - the queues outside City on weeknights in particular can be particularly poor and making things easier for fans can only be good, but yea facial recognition for entry at the very least can fuck off never mind more sinister stuff (but I'll take the positives for now)

So they are putting facial recognition on every turnstile. And this is just for members of staff and not for supporters. And it will not be turned on during match days.

Come on, City. If you’ve learnt anything from the last year it is that you cannot keep treating us supporters like the complete and utter mugs that we are.

The level of contempt they have for us is simply astounding.

I never saw that system for beers but I was at one of the smaller craft beer stalls.

Imagine a world where you don't even need a card or even a mobile phone because your face will pay for everything, just pop into one of the millions of phone kiosks, bars and cafes order what you want and your credits go straight to big business?

When technology fucks up you'll be arrested for things you have never done and when it really fucks up there will be no analogue payment system (Cash) to fall back on and no money means no food means civil unrest on an unprecedented scale.

The good thing however is that if you get caught in a riot they have your details at hand so you can be lifted at leisure :)
