Stadium Turnstile Upgrades

Why?

What have I done wrong?

City would have to put that in the T&C's of a season ticket.

City can't stop me from going into the Etihad if I don't want my face to be videoed for facial recognition. That's not a reason to stop me and others from entering the Etihad.

How are City going to let football fans, away fans into home ends when they buy match tickets off 1 of the 9 ticket selling partner websites. They won't have their faces on facial recognition at the Etihad.

What about City fans who just go to the odd game every season when they can get a ticket? Are they really going to comply with and piss about with facial recognition just to see the odd match?
It's a private business so.if they decide they don't want you coming in then they can.
I'm sure many people on here have turned up at a pub or club at some point having done nothing wrong and been told not today sir.

Yep, like shops they can refuse you entry for whatever reason they see fit. Even if they don't like the look of you.

With it being private property, they don't have to let anyone in theoretically

Yup the clue here is theoretically, the wider implications of refusing entry to a football stadium would be explored by fan protests and wider civil discussions about it.

The "but we can't do anything about it so we should just say nowt" mob need to stop it with that mindset.

If City stewards want to stop me from going in because I don't agree with facial recognition and I don't want me face/picture being stored on City's data system, so be it, I'm honestly not arsed. I'll get to the 10 game threshold ban soon enough and City can revoke my season ticket and sell that safe standing seat to another City fan or to a football fan/tourist.

Let's see what City come up with after trialing the facial recognition on their staff first.

Just to clarify. City don't own the Etihad stadium, they rent it from Sports England and the MCC, regardless if City are a private business or not.

Doesn't make the slightest difference whether they own the ground or don't.

Did I miss something but when did I supply City with a photograph of myself?
You probably didn't, bit they'll know the ticket is being passed around if different faces can be linked to your seat. Not sure how this would work if someone has multiple tickets on their phone.

Yes they can. But if I’ve spent a small fortune in that shop for the last 40 years, including over £2000 in the last 12 months, I’d expect a very good reason for not letting me in.

Not yet. But there’s a new turnstile entry system being implemented this summer. Don’t be surprised if they ask for a photo as part of this.

If we have to provide photo ID in the future you can guarantee that it will be connected to away tickets too.

…clearing out some old memorabilia from the loft this week I found a photo ID membership card from the 1994 season. Does anyone remember what the purpose of these cards were?

I wasn’t a ST-holder then so perhaps they were needed to buy tickets,.

I couldn’t reuse it today without sticking some hair back on..

...paranoid fools

Come on Steve.

I've know you far too long.

Just because I don't agree with facial recognition, that doesn't make me a paranoid fool, or other people paranoid fools.

If other people aren't bothered about facial recognition, fair enough.

The tickets will be different as they have said about them going to expired in your wallet and new instructions sent to download them. I just cannot see how they can request pictures for the coming season if they have openly said the turnstiles are off on match days, how could they justify a picture for the season coming? Unless as you scan in your picture comes up and the steward double checks, but in that case it makes the process slower rather than quicker as claimed. I just can't see anything for this season off the back of what they put in that email. Next season though.......

Your face and details are captured all over, and it's use will only increase, one more place makes no difference.
