I used to drink in a pub called The Shoulder of Mutton and Cucumber. It always claimed it had the longest pub name.
They were fibbin ain't got enough space to write Riflemans full name it go's on forever.I used to drink in a pub called The Shoulder of Mutton and Cucumber. It always claimed it had the longest pub name.
I'm sure the rifleman added words to keep the record. They were fibbin ain't got enough space to write Riflemans full name it go's on forever.
It always had the longest name then in the 80s people started fannying with pub names to get into Guinness book of records, so rifleman stuck a few in as well yes to regain title.I'm sure the rifleman added words to keep the record.
Apologies for some reason I always thought they were on the same street, Q Bar purposely naming it that to have the record. Not quite mate Qs on Market St. Riflemans on Astley St( I used to play footy for em) its half the town away.
No worries think it was called something else before but I can't remember knowing it, remember my old fella saying there was a Q Inn somewhere else in Stalybridge that closed down donkey's years ago, don't know if it's true.Apologies for some reason I always thought they were on the same street, Q Bar purposely naming it that to have the record.
I'm from Stalybridge, was born only about 5 stone throws away from station. No worries think it was called something else before but I can't remember knowing it, remember my old fella saying there was a Q Inn somewhere else in Stalybridge that closed down donkey's years ago, don't know if it's true.
From Duky but we used to have a beer in Vegas regular about 20 years ago,use to be a brilliant night when Pavilion bar and a few others were open. Sadly it then attracted every loon going and it was game over too much greed and too many bars.last I heard from rifleman was years ago when I thought it had been saved, pity local pubs are dropping like flies.writingI'm from Stalybridge, was born only about 5 stone throws away from station.
IIrc, I think I may of read that the old Q bar was on the same site as the new one, not sure though. The Riflemam has recently closed down sadly, soon to be apartments I've heard. There was a book written many years ago on the history of Pubs and public urinals in the town, called 'Stalybridge- the land of pubs and piss stones'. I have tried Googling it, but can't find reference to it anywhere. There used to be many pubs and public urinals in the town, hence the book. Town is also famous for the song 'Long way to Tipperary, written by Jack Judge. There is a club named after him in the town Judge's Bar. Town is in a sorry state nowadays, a long way from the halcyon era of "Staly-vegas."

Was a good town to drink in, people of all ages were there with no trouble until it's demise(like you stated) Took over from Ashton and people would booze there from all over North west and west Yorkshire.
