Stand leaders

The last good atmosphere at the Etihad was the 1-0 (Kompany header) derby.

Spot on that. Great night.

Our vocal sections stand with their arms folded the rest of the ground sits on their hands. Even big games don't see an atmosphere anymore, United and Spurs outsung us and we were hammering both of them.

I agree that the atmosphere is wank, but disagree with the derby comment. The atmosphere was great and United fans only 'outsung' us for about a 5-10 minute interval where they did their 'act of defiance' with the 20 times song.

So what's the issue with someone trying to do something if you disagree with it?

I don't have a problem with someone singing if they want to. I have a problem with someone telling me how I should act.

If a wannabee hall monitor just stands up and sings then fair enough. The second he tries to tell me what to do he'll be told to mind his own fucking business.
I imagine it won't be like that. I assume the idea is for someone to get more vocal parts of the ground going like in Germany and Greece. I think the majority of the ground isn't atmosphere orientated so it wouldn't work on the third tier of the Colin bell but would be ok in the south stand and parts of the east stand.

They want someone in every block. It shows a lack of understanding that not every supporter wants the south stand/ultras experience.

Excuse my stupidity, but I'm not getting this at all.(even if it was born out of the survey)

At no point during the meetings and discussions with the fans have the club mentioned or gone along with the idea of an Ultras group, and/or Capo at City/the Etihad. It has been mentioned by the fans, but the club has never encouraged it or taken it further as far as I'm aware.

Yet the club now wants 'Stand Leaders' to improve the atmosphere. In essence, official Capo's, selected by the club.

So after years of discussions with the dedicated fan groups(BA + 1894) and not much improvement in the atmosphere, the club have now acted on a scattergun email survey, and has decided to dive in at the deep end and appoint stand leaders.

I don't get it.

Did anyone from the 1894 Group know about this, and were you consulted on it?

Thanks.

Who the hell said yes to this?! What a terrible idea! An ultras leader is sort of understandable but a "stand leader", no thanks.

Ffs jrb. Give us some credit !

Can happily assure you its nowt to do with us

we give our view to the club and they read the comments on our facebook. The club help us with many things so not going to slag them off. Not an idea we are involved with though. We favour doing it our way. Gradually building awareness and creating the conditions where fans treat home games like an away day. We dont see a quick fix solution out there but we think we are getting somewhere this season

I've have always given BA and 1894 credit. Always.

I was just asking the question, that's all. :-)

the atmosphere is shit at home, so dont see a problem with this. Better than standing in silence with arms folded

This already happens anyway usually one person gets up and sings and the rest then follow.

Funnily enough, if this got the north stand singing it would actually work.

Songs which start at that end of the ground often 'catch on' around the ground. That age old, insolvable problem where each group of singers do their own thing and can't hear each other is occasionally solved when the songs start at that end of the ground. Becuae the song spreads down both sides of the ground at the same time it gets both the south stand and the 111 area singing at the same time.

But the idea of putting 'song leaders' in areas like the cb3 is of course doomed to failure. Same for the existing singing areas.

Much as this makes me slightly throw up in my mouth, anything is worth a try. If it gets the singing sections singing it will be a start.

Our atmosphere is heading towards being worse than the rags'. It took them years of 'go on, impress me' style entitlement to get to be that shit. We are doing it in record time.

If the singing sections start singing properly, a few weirdos giving a bit of encouragement elsewhere may also get other areas to join in.

Look, I'm a bit shy so wouldn't want to be a singer, but I'm happy to stand by the side of him with my tambourine if it helps.

Club should just ask for the singers (you know who you are) to make themselves known and lump all the fuckers together in the middle of South Stand say in 118. The smacked arse arm folders can sit elsewhere. Give them all five pints each for a pound a pint (its not a fucking charity) don't mither them if they stand up all game and leave them to it.

I see the Victor Meldrews are up in arms about this, it will get their way of sitting down, arms folding whilst shouting abuse at Dzeko!

Something needs to be done as we're one of the quietest stadiums in the league.
