Stand leaders

was at a Seattle Sounders (yes) game last year and they had this - was loud as fuck. Everything you wouldn't expect from a US crowd. I'm for it.

For some reason we have turned into a nation where we're too worried about what others think of us so go about our lives keepin our heads down . Anywhere else in the world would do something like this without any bother . When we try doin it everyone cringes!. Why?. The likes of France, Spain , Germany , Eastern Europe and even the states ! Have things like guys on the tannoy system or with a megaphone gettin the crowd goin. Some teams even have a guy stood on the centre circle before the game starts and gets the crowd goin . It all works and it's all very effective , yet why do we shy away from such things ?. We'd rather keep our heads down and do as we're told, which is basically sit in silence .

Sadly, a large amount would rather sit there slagging this idea and carry on sittin in silence and then moan about how crap the atmos is .

Really bad culture we have here and the sooner we expand the stadium and create a proper singing section, the better . They need to select a block and then do a survey askin who would be up for being located in the singing section stating that those that are willing to sing as much as possible are asked to locate this block .

Any evidence that people who don't feel the need to sing for 90 minutes are critical of the atmosphere? Or is that just a convenient soundbyte?

Interesting that you say we're becoming a nation too worried about what others think. I'd say too worried about what others do. If you want to sing, sing. But not everyone wants to sing all the time, that seems to be a concept some struggle with.

I would love to meet the cretins that thought of this .Just proves as well that we have a significant number of bellends in our support that think this is a good idea.

I thought it was about fans taking some responsibility themselves for doing something about the atmosphere

In my block, there's one guy who gets up and has the balls to sing whenever and a small pocket takes the lead from him. And on odd occasions when the mood is right the whole block joins in. That's the best you can hope for

The singing section needs to be re-launched because they have given up the ghost at the moment

The last good atmosphere at the Etihad was the 1-0 (Kompany header) derby.

Spot on that. Great night.

Not the game a couple of weeks later?
I wouldn't call people stood with their head in their hands or biting their nails a good atmosphere.

When I was a kid and watching Swinton R.L. regularly (when they were good) there was a bloke who decided there was no "atmosphere" at games and took it on himself to try to get the crowd going. It failed and all he did was embarrass himself. Whether it's rugby, City (for 50+ years), New York baseball & ice hockey which I watch now, it's the same , most people don't want to be singing and chanting all the game, they'll roar their heads off when there's a natural reason to do it, but most folk go to games to enjoy the match while nattering to their mates, sons, fathers, brothers, and they don't want some tosser of a "leader" orchestrating when and how to cheer. If it doesn't happen spontaneously, don't bother.

Atmosphere is a natural reaction to specific moments and events in a fluctuating, unrehearsed match.
When the time is right and the moment warrants we are exceptional.
It's not a Victor Meldew reaction to be against some artificial attempt to create a karaoke atmosphere.
I imagine it's the sort of people who can't sit still or silent for 2 minutes without playstation, facefuck or twatter to make themselves feel involved.
The novelty of the eastern european loudhailer ultra-aerobics isn't about watching and analysing a match, it's the opposite. If you want that - ask if the club can provide a standing flapping dickhead section.

Now where's my f##king pipe!

I am very much in favour of the club asking every SC and BC member if they would move to a singing section (a number of seats to be available for BC holders) my estimate would be around 4500 that would sign up, it would cull those like the one near me in 324 who wanted to stand up and sing along with the SS and 110/112 every match he was the main reason I moved to 204. I am also in favour of safe standing and cheap as chips SC for under 16s.

imagine being in charge of a whole stand, every single one of them aiming their adoration toward you at the same time as you start singing the black lace classic "we're havin a gang bang, we're havin a ball"

sends shivers down my spine thinking how lucky a few of you locals will be leading the way!!!!

do you have to provide your own megaphone or is one provided for you? .....just askin, like!

We're not gonna see a safe standing area in the ground. Ever. It would instantly take us from a UEFA Cat 4 ground to a Cat 1 ground. I'd like to see it as much as the next man but it's not plausible.

There have been many-a-time where I've been caught singing on my own - yes, even stone sober. I couldn't give a toss, either, but it does upset me mildly to see this same conversation come up over and over again. We're trying.

it has got to this because people go to things like points of blue etc crying about the atmosphere, usually younger fans.. I expect a piss take amongst other English clubs far worse than when people used to carry giant bananas etc etc.. it is not our way and would only work in the singing sections anyway..

If they want more atmosphere they should drop the ticket prices by 70% and make football a cheap form of entertainment like it was when crowds were noisy.

TV money and sponsorship makes that entirely possible.

A stadium full of middle aged men is never going to get too lively.

You wouldn't say that sat in 212 near the away hordes

I'd bring my pink flamingo...

...if Harty hadn't stolen it in our BPL winners parade. Might have to invest in another one.

I wish to apply for the 'South Stand'. I did this role before. Here I am back in the day.
