Star Wars: Rogue One

Well I enjoyed it. It was the most enjoyment I've had out of a SW fillum since the originals.

Exactly! Most people go to the cinema to watch films/read books of this genre for the purpose of escapism and are willing to suspend belief for a little while.

Its supposed to be fun and really making it to be a truly accurate portrayal of war and show the devastating effects, well I may as well turn the fucking news on for couple of hours. Or actually watch Saving Private Ryan. Plus it wouldn't have felt like a Star Wars film.

SW won't please all the fans all the time but it pleases most of the fans most of the time. (Well, apart from Epi's 1-3) ;)

If I was a pedant I could equally pull you up on spelling making wrong...

I'm not professing to be a great writer, a quick look at my post history can clearly evidence that. But regardless on whether my prose is great or not (it probably isn't) that still doesn't take much away from what I've said. The writing and character development was very poor.
Ha, ha - typical but I didn't misspell, iPads for ya, although my proofreading was crap.

You did have a point about characterisation but it isn't that kind of movie and much of what you wrote misses the point: the movie is a crowd pleaser.

Thinking of taking my 6 year old lad to the IMAX to watch in 3D, is it worth the money? He loves the star wars films and so do i, just never been to the IMAX before.

Not at all, I just appreciate good writing, characterisation and storytelling, which this movie was completely disjointed in trying to achieve. This movie was fan service vignettes cobbled together by a very flimsy story, which I felt in many respects insults the the viewers intelligence.

Whilst I know what you mean, and actually agree, Edwards is not a writer and yes, he served us a film that he probably always thought should have happened regarding Vader's power.

Not convinced by CGI effects. At times looked like set pieces from thunderbirds. Some space vessels looked like lego and the super imposed face at the end looked like a bad photo shop effort. The aerial duals are old hat and whole sequences of events on the final planet are effectively made nil and void by the outcome (trying to avoid spoilers). A bit shit really. Do not bother with 3D either.

LOL!!

Edwards did a fantastic thing in not changing the continuity as it was the PRECURSOR to SW. What the hell else did you expect him to do? I thought it was a brilliant homage to the previous style of film making!!

It was so tongue-in-cheek I was actually chuckling away at the scenes!!

So it was ironic, not shit. Sorry my mistake. Obviously I need patronising a tad more. Keep it up - the force is strong with this one.

I had no intention of patronising you. The star ships sequence could have been easily missed and/ or misinterpreted.

It's no big deal! ;)
It's ok fella. Sorry for the sarcasm. I actually liked the casting and the story lines but was dispapointed that the finale was so drawn out and ultimately low key.

I believe they reused cut footage from the earlier films specifically for that purpose, and then retrofitted the style to match.

As nods to continuity, it's quite subtle.
