Star Wars VII

Geek mode/

Can't wait for this. The trailers whet the appetite, it's been ages since revenge of the sith, all I've done is play things like the force unleashed in the meantime. Bring it on

This rumour has been going around for years, I'm sure Lucas said the originals didn't exist anymore though I don't believe that myself, I probably wouldn't buy them anyway I'm sick of getting different versions I'd just download the buggers

Lucas definitely has original prints. They do exist. Don't know if he had to hand them over to Disney as part of the deal or not but over the past few years he's shown them to people at his home. I'm sure J J Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy have seem them as well. They must be in decent condition as well if they are going to be transferred on to blu ray

Maybe not a huge thing to most people but John Landis said last night that Lucas and Disney are going to rerelease the original trilogy on blu ray. Now Lucas has always been adamant that he would never release these again as he said the special editions were the way he meant them to be. Its also worth noting that Fox hold the rights for the originals until 2020 and also hold the rights for A New Hope forever so a lot of negotiations must of been going on as I reckon this will be the biggest selling blu ray boxset of all time. Is Lucas just trying to please the fans or are Disney just try to make more money? I think its a mixture of both but I'm very happy with this news

Lucas wouldn't be in on the decision any more.

To be honest it doesn't matter if they have the originals or not because as long as they have a copy of the originals, and considering they were sent to theatres worldwide and are are a collectors item then you have to presume that they have, they can get them onto BluRay.

Now I don't really know too much about this but I've read on the Star Wars forum that converting from 35mm film to BluRay is actually a lot easier than converting even a modern film in terms of scaling up. Not sure on the technicals about it but it's something to do with digital vs film prints and how the data is burned or something

There's an excellent little video about the Harmy DeSpecialized Edition for those interested in that sort of stuff

Not really reading much about the new one, as I remember getting over-excited about Prometheus only for Ridley Scott to make a rubbish film.

So I'd rather go in low-key and enjoy it. Saying that, if I were to do anything with Star Wars it would be to remake the prequels, as I know they're rubbish but as a kid becoming a teenager when they first came out, I did connect with the concept of the Anakin character, and would love (in the alternate reality where I could ever be a film bod) to do it justice.

That Despecialized Edition is a bit tricky to get hold of - there's a route via
