Started up Golf

There is something fantastic about new golf clubs. All the promise beneath the shiny surface of the unblemished face as it carve through the air. The bite of the grooves as you picture the ball spinning to a tight stop right behind the pin. The feel of the grips in your hands. Not a single missed shot has ever ruined their virgin innocence. You just know those new clubs are made to make you special. To channel the golfing gods of yore. Tony Jacklin. Sevvy. Faldo... you are about to tap into the essence of greatness. New leather gloves to stretch over your fingers in almost sensual power. Spilling new balls from the box onto the carpet, technology that will make your shots straighter and longer....

Then you get paired up to tee off next to a 15 year old in cut off jeans, converse, and three borrowed clubs. He splits the middle of the fairway with a ball that looks like it was just found in the car park drain. You pull a handful of fresh tees out. Pull the driver out of the bag that a handful of the best pros use, and unzip the elaborate padded head cover. And then shank the ball straight right. Then top one barely to the ladies tee. Dig a hole with the fairway wood that promised to make every shot memorable. Four shots later, you are about to where the kid hit. And you are wishing ever so slightly that you had stayed with some beater set of clubs and a faded bag for a little.

if you do take to it one piece of advice I would strongly urge you to take is to get a few lessons with a pro' you won't regret it,
The only advise I would give,is take no notice of this advise......

If you can hit the ball properly ,and you are happy with your swing and your game...leave it as it is.......I know two people who,at age 21 and 23 and were IMO good players, but wanted to get bit better.. had 6 lessons each with a club pro....18 months down the line both of them don't play anymore......All that will happen with lessons is,he will tell you all the things that you are doing wrong, and trust me there will be lots of things wrong, you will be lucky if you can hit a ball straight again....

Golfers today cant go for a dump without having some kind of Guru hanging
over there shoulder....they are all as mad a as box of frogs, superstitous
beyond belief, look at Harrington and that thing he puts under his foot....
crackers the lot of them

Golf is about getting out of the house for a few hours, and having a laugh as well, just enjoy it.. and don't over complicate it.

True...its what works for you thats important.
I was told my swing was too quick and I needed to slow it down, I tried this and it ruined my game..

I then watched pros on the telly with swings faster than my original one and thought what the fuck..I reverted to my own style and began enjoying the game again..

get help with the basics, then use your own style.

I do miss the golf. I got down to 13 at my peak. Joined Worsley in Monton many moons ago not the Marriot, the proper Worsley. Loveley track.
If I ever return I shall make sure I fucking slice one into Giggs' shiny new motor.

Paying £800 notes for a first set...Are you for real??

How right you are Biscuits

Well what a nice day.....played Altrincham (£17),par on the first two holes.....then it went downhill.....Lost 3 balls...(not bad)...shot 103......
The lad I was playing with shot 93 and he plays all the time
I had the touch of a baby elephant with the putter....but other than the long par5 9th hole,it was not much worse than 6years ago

Only downside is my feet are fooking killing me

So all you lapsed golfers get the clubs out and give it a go

When I started getting into it I was obsessed with it. Spending £300 notes on a driver without even worrying pal. I think I will get back into it again soon. Just got to persuade her indoors. Probably be when the baby (7 months) goes to school full time along with my little girl who starts full time in year 1 in September.
