Excellent formation and choice of players. But it seems like Mancini still wants Nasri (or another attacking midfielder)...and if we get Nasri. I would say that the formation is more like this:
----------------------HART---------------------
-RICHARDS----KOMPANY----LESCOTT----CLICHY-
----------------YAYA------DE JONG-------------
------NASRI----------------------------SILVA---
-----------------AGUERO------------------------

You are not ruining the party Nothing more enjoyable than a discussion of the strenghts and weaknesses of players :)BlueCityfan said:Sorry to ruin the party Dax. :D But i think Nasri rightfully is the player Mancini wants.
He shoots well with his left, but he is predominantly a rightfooter.Right-footed...but he is often called both-footed. Because his both feet are so strong. Thats a very good thing.
exactly, Mata is even more effective at Scoring, and scores more goals than Nasri. And he is also a superior creator. Which by the way Nasri really isn't that good at. He doesn't see the field as well, and depends a lot on dribbling out of jams, than finding the intelligent pass.Nasri is also very effective when it comes to finishing. And he is capable of scoring alot of goals. And he is pretty creative aswell.
Mata is just a superior footballer to Nasri.
Mata's the better passer, its one of his strongest aspects of his game. Nasri is known to have inconsistent first touch, suspect passing and vision. Mata is also a natural goal scorer. Refuting this means you don't watch Mata much. He was a striker at Madrid and has very good shooting technique and position. Mata scores, mate.I don't really see it. Mata is smaller and faster, a better team player, but there's no doubt in my mind that Nasri has more outright ability to pass and finish accurately, strongly. He might even be a more effective dribbler despite the speed disadvantage.
Are you forgetting that he was part of the world's best national squad? The squad that won the world cup last year? The only reason Mata is playing in the u21 is because they needed experienced players and they asked him if he wanted to play and contribute because he was still eligible. If pushed I'd accept that Mata might have more potential but he's still playing in u21 tournaments. Nasri has been doing it for a while against the Utds, Chelsea, and of course in the CL.
That's the role he's more of less taken on since Silva's departure. But it highlights another thing. Mata can also play as a playmaker. IMO, he's equally as effective as a sort of second striker-ish role. In the event that Silva gets injured, we have a player that can take his place without a hitch so we don't lose our bite in the attack.Mata is just like Silva. A team player and facilitator. We could have 4 of these guys, pass the ball beautifully and never score the goals. He's inferior to Silva, so what's the point?
Mata brings forth consistency. Nasri? Not so much. Nasri had a 6 month streak of form that greatly hyped him because of MOTD highlights. Nasri making the breakthrough? FFS, what about Mata! Watch this lad more, mate.Nasri is the guy who might go missing, but frequently makes the breakthrough on his own. He's superior to AJ and would complement Silva and Yaya. That's why we're in for him.
FInish, maybe. But pass? Absolutely not. Mata sees things as quickly as Silva does. Perhaps even quicker, coz he is not as calm as Silva. Yet his vision is impeccable. And his movemnt is superior to Nasri's. Nasri is a better dribbler.Chick Counterfly said:Mata is just a superior footballer to Nasri.

Like he said in his interview, unlike many, he doesnt see under 21 as a step down, it is just a different competition and a different challenge. And he is always up for football. That is an intoxicating mentality. Messi is the same way. Even if it is against the homeless, he wants to play. Nasri on the other hand is a bit of a premadonna. If pushed I'd accept that Mata might have more potential but he's still playing in u21 tournaments. A general misconception. Mata is like SIlva, only in the sense that he comes from a Spanish footballing tradition. It is like saying Villa is like SIlva or Fabregas is like Silva. None of these guys are similar, albeit they all have the culture of intelligent passing and playing team oriented football.Mata is just like Silva. A team player and facilitator. We could have 4 of these guys, pass the ball beautifully and never score the goals. He's inferior to Silva, so what's the point?
Wild guess? Mata!Kurple said:who works harder defensively?

I'd agree that I like Mata's attitude. But a primadonna is sometimes just the ticket. The point about the u21 is just that Nasri has done it on a bigger stage. There is a benefit to having that experience in your dressing room, and players who the opposition recognise as having hurt them in the past.Like he said in his interview, unlike many, he doesnt see under 21 as a step down, it is just a different competition and a different challenge. Mata, 5'6, 60kg(ish), very left footed, facilitator with superb vision, has the spanish game imprinted on the inside of his skull. Favourite position, free role starting on the left wing.A general misconception. Mata is like SIlva, only in the sense that he comes from a Spanish footballing tradition. It is like saying Villa is like SIlva or Fabregas is like Silva. (sorry, lost the original quote)
It's horses for courses. We don't need another left footed creative player and finisher nearly as much as we need the option of right footed dribbler and creative player.Mata is superior to AJ too, and will complement Silva and Yaya better than Nasri, because 1) they all understand the same system, and 2) he is a fastbreak specialist and adaptable. Would he take on 4 - 5 defenders like Nasri does? No, But this doesn't mean his overall contribution and goals, will not dwarf Nasri's.
