State Pension Increases

I actually did all of those things when I was daft and young and earning, but just sort of got bored and grew out of them regardless of the cost.

Believe it or not it is possible to have hobbies and a social life that don't involve sitting in a flat roofed pub literally pissing your money up the wall, or going out for an overpriced poorly cooked meal just so you can post a pic of it on Facebook and Instatwat. As for holidays see below for where I've just spent the last couple of hours, so funnily enough I don't particularly feel the need for a holiday to escape the drudgery and misery of my pitiful existence. Bloody hell I was there two weeks ago, I wondered who lived in those cottages

Pot noodle
Bottle of white lightening
3 jumpers
Huddled around a candle
Channel 5 best Xmas songs ever(numbers 20 to 10) can't have the TV on all night plus it will ruin next year's knowing the result
kaz can bring her torch and put on a light show.

All of them, please stop generalising all pensioners because I know for certain my sister is not wealthy.
I suppose we need to define "wealthy"

I'm not saying all pensioners are spending 3 months a year on luxury cruises and driving around in £80k Mercs.

But there's very little reason for anyone of current pension age who's been fit and healthy, mentally competent and able to work throughout their adult life and yet now find themselves with zero assets, zero savings or investments and zero retirement income other than state pension.

Incidentally, people do realise that anyone who does fall into the above category will also be entitled to Pension Credit to top up their basic State Pension (in fact even with up to £10k in savings they'll still be entitled to Pension Credit )... and when in receipt of pension credit they'll then also qualify for a whole range of additional benefits, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Winter heating allowance, Cost of Living Payments, Home efficiency grants, etc etc

Thank you @normskih. I also hope @Scottyboi was joking but whether he was or wasn't I am now (& I am not joking) crying because I never ever felt that a fellow Blue or actually a fellow human being would wish an old age pensioner dead. I am struggling health wise, I have just had to spend what little savings I had on house renovations to be able to stay in my own home. My family want to help me but I didn't bring them up to help me, I am supposed to help them. (I've been through all the discussions and cried for hours so don't go there please.)

I will say no more. There is a thread on mental health and people say that men won't speak out for help. It isn't only men. :-( :-)
EB, if it’s renovations needed in your home due to health reasons you should speak to the council. Just because you own your home doesn’t mean to say you cannot get some help and don’t be too proud, there‘s nothing wrong with asking for help.

I think we should set up a crowd fund for EB’s renovations. Be more than happy to contribute but can’t set one up myself for, err, reasons.. :-)

Yeah you're right.
The definition of "having a life" is clearly defined as being a moronic, mindless consumer of pointless shite and being a lifelong wage slave to pay for it.

I wasn't talking about the iPhones. I had my last phone for 5 years and it cost me about £300. It's the lack of experiences.

I've had an income of less than that, I've also had an income of nothing while living off savings, and when I was saving to put away that money and doing fuck all I also felt the strain of not being able to use that money for experiences and purchases that might give you a lift from the drudge of everyday life and work.

The earlier comments about fecklessness suggest you have strongly held views. There's plenty of ways people can fall into that situation through no fault of their own.

Hats off to you for making the most out of frugality, I'm not a spendthrift and am happy to save and scrimp on some categories but also indulge in others. But frugality is not a lifestyle that suits the majority. And it would reduce the economy and development of the country to something akin to rural Bulgaria If the majority did actually live like that.

E.g. Stay at home mum of large family or kids with additional needs becomes a widow and the life insurance policy that would have given them security doesn't pay out because her husband killed himself or he cancelled the policy spent on booze and wrapped his car round a tree. What money she had she spent raising her kids and sold the big to be able to do that.
