State Pension Increases

You have to pay NI whether you like it or not until you qualify for a state pension.

This can mean you pay for 50 years
Im not in disagreement with that and well aware that im likely to pay many more years than 35 which is only right. The problem is how do we make pensions affordable so future generations aren't screwed over. Continuation of payment of NI when you take income from your pension is at least an option. Personally im absolutely fine with continuing to pay NI, like any other tax in retirement.

That's fine if you can afford it....some poor bastards can't.

“Closer to home, the UK has a system that is just above the breakeven point which means at present, there isn’t much room to manoeuvre for those battling the cost of living crisis. And while it is positive that the UK finds itself among the top half of countries, for how much longer is the question.

“Although the increase in the state pension was well intended, it works out at just £33 more per month compared to last year’s pension. It’s clear that those over 66 need to look at other options rather than just relying on the state pension.

What an infantile view to think NI is only for your state pension and you should stop paying after you have your 35 years to get a full pension?
It beggars belief anyone could be that stupid.
So stop paying the part that goes to the state pension then, they want people to go back to work, encourage them, it beggars belief that anyone can be so stupid to think I should be paying tax for something I get fuck all benefit from.

get rid of the freeze on personal allowance would be a start. I saved since I was 18 for a pension, I was on a very little when I joined the RAF, like most it was the pay off for having a pension, some people just don’t take personal responsibility for their futures and like everything else expect the government to look after them, well people my age should know better and if they haven’t then more fool them. We all have problems over our working lives but you’ve got 50 years to sort it out.

What sort of cretin thinks that a “part” of NI is ring fenced for state pensions?
I think people should be dissuaded from working beyond pension age then perhaps youngsters could get proper jobs and not end up doing deliveroo or other dead end, zero hour crap jobs because the jobs market is bunged up by FOCs.

So you saying a certain percentage isn’t put towards the state pension or they just change as and when they please? well when they decide that percentage each year take it off the NI contributions, not difficult to work out if your intelligent.

More FOCs might be persuaded to retire if the state pension wasn't one of the worst in western Europe.

Sadly a lot of people cannot afford to live on the State Pension ..... so they have to continue to work.
