Statement from fan groups ahead of new season

If there's one thing you can probably rely on City getting right these days, it's legal advice.

I can't see anyway it could be against the law anyway. Maybe if they took your money and then refused you entry to a game you'd paid for, you'd have some sort of recourse. But the way it stands, you could fail to attend the first 18 games and there's no suggestion they wouldn't let you in for the 19th.
But they've offered renewals, allowed people to renew tickets then imposed conditions that people weren't aware of when they accepted the contract.

I'd be interested in our resident lawyers' views on this but I studied Contract Law as part of my degree and the key concept in this is Offer & Acceptance. A key part of this is that the offer must include clear and definite terms. If City offered you the renewal of your season ticket but didn't tell you the price until you'd accepted, then that contract wouldn't be legal.

I'd say that the renewal letter is the offer in this case, but some of the terms that now apply to the contract were not stated as part of the offer. If City knew they were going to impose these restrictions then I'd say that was misrepresentation.

What might have happened is that the PL made it clear to clubs that their ridiculous rule R.16 would be more strictly enforced this season, but only done that after renewal had taken place at clubs. I know some of the issues around not being able to change your 3 nominated non-members were due to constraints in the ticketing system and the required upgrades won't be in place for a few months.

This isn't the first time this has happened. At the start of the new digital ticketing system the club announced. it wouldn't charge for upgrades, but that wasn't a deliberate choice out of the goodness of the club's heart. The system just couldn't process them.

But even if it was the case that the PL made a late demand, the clubs should have pushed back on legal grounds, as it would force them to change their terms and conditions on accepted contracts.

City Matters needs to have this discussion with the club as I don't believe they can' change key terms and conditions after fans have accepted the contract.

Which terms did they not announce? I remember them including the 16/10 match clauses and the three non membership fans for transferring.

I have 2 adult season tickets for me and my 40 year old daughter and 2 junior season tickets which I share between 4 grandkids I'm not fucking about anymore if they start penalising me I'm calling it a day at 64 it's getting silly all these rules and regulations

It is all another stage in the sad and seemingly constant disconnect with supporters who deserve better following years of loyalty and support of the team and club, but money is now king.

We are not alone in this, but after years where the club felt "special to many of us" with regard to the relationship with fans, we are now simply just like every other club - customers !

Yes the only thing to connect with now is the badge and some of the players.

It does feel like the end of a relationship now, where you have put so much into it, it’s difficult to say goodbye but you know, deep down, it’s not what you fell in love with and you might be happier parting ways.

RE: the club needing to know the named person in your seat for "safety and security" so not allowing you to transfer to other ST holders - when I've purchased additional tickets for matches, I've never had to give names for them, even with the open training session the other week I bought four and didn't have to type in a name for each ticket. So that's clearly bollocks isn't it?
How does it work for people who buy via third party sites I bet they don’t know their names.

Suspect this will be my last as a season ticket holder.

Lad is at uni and unlikely to make 10 games. I've loaded his ticket to my phone and will try and find a way to get him to 10 by taking others, but I'm basically having to think of ways to cheat the system, when all I want to do is pay for his season ticket, sell the games he can't make back to the club (who then sells the seat at a higher price) and then he'll have his season ticket available when he finishes uni and potentially gets a well paid job and wants to go to lots of games. Instead, I suspect he'll lose it, meaning he probably won't bother going when he finishes the course as he'll have got out of the habit. And if they won't renew his, they can do one for mine, which I suspect is what they want all along as that's two seats they can sell for a premium price to fans who'll also want to visit the shop, do the tour and whatever experiences the new City square can charge them for.
I have two season tickets on my phone like you and i intend to chip in whoever comes with me

You can do that and you will be easily able to sell it on here when spare, thies new rules make what you have and me actually a good idea

Wait until early 2026 and see how many rules they enforce when there are an additional 8,000 seats to fill.
They will be actively after people to come then.

However they will go after day trippers. Where i work now several women here who have paid the £35 membership fee etc as they have young kids who want to go

They all struggled to buy tickets when the windows open but City have them, they know when this new stand opens they can get them in.

I no issue with that but City see them as simply cash

This name thing is a load of bollocks anyway. You can sign up for a membership with any made up name you want and it makes no difference.

My dad and I sit next to each other and often miss games (work, holidays etc) but rarely do both of us miss the same game.

When we can’t go another family member will.

Our plan is to have both tickets on both of our phones, and scan the guest family member in if one of us can’t go.

Sounds easy enough - what’s the catch?

Sent an email to Michael Ash my fan rep. He passed it on to the Club and this afternoon I got a call from the ticket office. The young lady Lora sorted out my problem, she was a bloody marvel. She admitted that it was not easy to do so I can't thank her enough.

Nothing until they bring in facial recognition (;

Yeah, but in my silly hypothetical example, you could miss the first 18 games without sanction for the 19th game, as per any contract you may have unwittingly agreed to for the current season. They would then presumably not send you a renewal letter for next season. With admittedly no legal training, I'd be very surprised if they were legally bound to offer anybody a renewal, whether you'd broken any of the previous season's T&Cs or not.

Can you let us know in this thread if the stewards give you any grief for doing this? I worry how the club plan on policing it.
