I don’t think the point of statues is to be an identical match but to capture the essence of the individual.

The Kompany one shows the collossus that VK was as a leader. Silva was the most elegant and balanced footballer I have ever seen and his statue has those qualities. I’ve not seen the Sergio one in the flesh but from pictures it looks like the power of the utter joy and relief of 93.20 is in there.

When the players and those of us fortunate to watch them play are dead and gone, the statues will remain and facial discrepancies will no longer be an issue.

Sorry just to be clear, I wasn’t criticising your research in any way. Apologies if it came across that way, it certainly wasn’t my intention.

I just remember there was a detail that you and Dave weren’t too sure about between you, and I thought Gary James might be able to help clarify it for you as he’s the official historian of the club.

It was an interesting listen for me as I don’t know too much about that period of the club, and I’ll look forward to hearing more in the future.

It's not so much the design that bothers me but rather the glut of statues themselves. Three just feels overkill. Immortalising the Serg moment I can understand, because that was one of the most iconic moments in football history, nevermind our history. But where do we stop? I like to think we'll have innumerable legends to look back on over the next few decades but we can't erect statues of them all.

Agree entirely. It feels like the top brass are trying to create ‘history’.There is no need we already have it in abundance and they should promote that.

There is a picture on twitter today of a bloke from Belfast who came over to watch the Spurs game, and after it being postponed, went to the ground to see the statues etc. When he was at David's, David turned up! Pic is great.
