Steaua Bucharest post-match thread

Had to listen to the match on Talk Shite so this morning tried to get another picture from the media. No mention at all on the the BBC - just Silly Sally and another daft bird gushing for ages about the Olympics including a 'wow' because two cyclists had the same birthday and an 'awww' when some silly bugger fell over at the first hurdle.ITV was even worse- like a mum's coffee morning discussing events they had never heard of. Interesting to hear how good it is that the dreaded money injection put into the sports has caused success. It seems that only City's money is bad.

Over to the print media and although they praise City (they had to) nearly all have to mention returned tickets. I have never seen so many reports contain mention of fans not going to an away match 2000 miles away with no direct flights. I don't know if it is good or bad for UK clubs to get 'only ' 500 fans for a qualifying round so far away - it never gets reported for anybody else - but I do recall many excuses for others clubs not playing well because after long journeys and we might see it again with Thursday night football soon.

It seems that the media cunuts have to get negatives out of any situation and as usual it is at the expense of us. In more ways than one, there is no doubt that:-

THERE IS ONLY ONE CITY

We didn't get any mention on the press bit, they decided to concentrate on the negative stuff like the Hart situation. If the Rags had turned it on in Europe like that they would be waxing superlatives left right and centre. Maybe we need to put in a perfomance against the future FIFA world club champions Afc Bournemouth before we are taken seriously.

I don't really quite understand the rivalry between your two clubs, tbh. I mean I get that in one city there will be a divide over two clubs, even if one has a longer history of success. But perhaps it's just the type of banter I don't really understand - it's not like with Barcelona vs RM.

There's bitterness, clearly - I think many have overhyped Mou and just as many selling Pep short because he 'inherited great teams'. Like Sacchi said last night, when you watch City last night it was immediate who the coach was - it's as simple as that. And even for a longtime culer like myself, I love the Pep effect and have missed that style of play.

It'll be very interesting to see what Pep builds at City

Im sure if you really try my friend you can begin to understand..

the truth is out there.!!

Simply outstanding, and that after one serious match and a terrible pre season ( nothing to do with Pep).

We have a future that is going to become legendary for evermore.

i don't care about the media we know it is bias as fuck, just give us three points against stoke and make my week.

His first task, his homework, if yer like, is to dig down about Blackburn and Burnley, then The Blades and The Owls, Haringay and Islington, even the two Bristol clubs, City and Rovers, and then finally he will understand Manchester and Stretford. Funny, though, has he blinkers on when Atletico play Real?

The problem is the caf is made up of very few match going fans so they feel they have to validate their support by trying to outdo each other with their shite. We spent a couple of decades as a yo-yo club winning nothing whilst watching them Hoover up trophy after trophy and what you have now is a sense of entitlement unmatched. They've become obsessed by attendances, I mean really obsessed. It's pretty fucking weird actually how so many grown men (and woman) can put so much energy into something which when looked into, isn't even true.
The out of towners will always go overboard, it makes them feel like they are fitting in.

If the first few weeks of Pep being here is anything to go by sadcafe will be a fun place to visit over the next couple of months. What he has the potential to do here is mouthwatering.

Im still waiting to hear the reports of more empty seats at the ethiad last night....and on Peps first European game.

Creating a "spare man" by dragging the opposition out of shape is an integral part of Pep's tactics.
I understand that. Lots of other tactics also has the purpose of creating overloads on one section of the pitch. But last night it literally looked like we were playing with 12 men.

Pep's tactics are fascinating, he has somehow liberated our midfield and given it the freedom it needed to really thrive. We seriously could of scored 10 last night and I felt embarassed when we attacked because we looked like scoring every single time. We managed to miss 2 penalties and a ton of other chances yet still won 5-0.....It was like playing Fifa against someone who has never played before.

Other teams have to think now can they afford to play a high pressing game against us because they will always get outnumbered in midfield and any mistakes risk leaving a 4v4, 5v5 against people like Aguero and KDB. I have been surprised really with Pep because I always thought he was more conservative defensively but now it seems his tactics and setup ARE our defence. It seems to be a case now of attack us if you dare.

It's amazing how an opinion on a team can change so quickly.
Before the game and right at the start of it, steaua were no pushovers, had settled into the season having played 6 games and we should watch out for their star man.
By the end of the game, they're labelled as shit and a pub team.

For me one of the best things about last night was Pep's post match comment saying the he will not have Otamendi going to ground again. Halleluiah!!! Less than one game and Pep nails it!!

The thing I learned watching what Pep did at Barcelona, it had little to do with the opposition - watch what your team does and no one will be able to outplay you. This was his mantra, it's about what the team does irrespective of the other team.

There will be hurdles & growing pains but you got a taste of what to expect going forward, which also means it won't matter if it's Steau lining up or Arsenal et al

That's the irritating thing - if the rags had done the same against the same opposition there would be two page spreads about it for days on end. We saw how much coverage they got for winning friendlies, let alone against the might of Bournemouth.

If the media had not engaged in a season long campaign against Sterling particularly in the Euros lead up, fuelling the booing from the brain dead England fans in other clubs, England might have done far better with Sterling playing as well as he can without his confidence being destroyed.

FcBarca, have you been posting on ragcafe and been getting some abuse?
Have the smacked arses banned you yet?
