Steaua Bucharest post-match thread

A sublime performance, we completely dominated them from start to finish, and played like a top side should. Our shape off the ball defensively was a lot better, and there were some standout performances.

English media has treated Pep like this all the time. Spanish League, Bundesliga are all leagues widely respected. But once Pep started winning, they were nothing more than a 1-team league :)

Ppl dont realise Pep doesnt win by counterattack, parking a bus or chancing an opponent's mistake. He wins by dominating! He will dominate anywhere he goes! You will get the feeling its all easy, had to happen, very obvious, anyone with those players will play & win the same way! But the details are with the orchestrator!

I have to change the channel when he's on. I have a physical reaction every time he opens his mouth. He offers nothing but nausea. I don't know how he has a job.
 
Not sure if this has been discussed, but am disappointed with media reaction of last nights win. You would think we played Bury's reserve team. The football we played would have had most prem teams chasing shadows. Now if that had been the rags playing Steua, need I say more!
 
Said much of what I wanted to say in Pep's Tactics thread but I am absolutely delighted to see the work rate from the players and their diligence in trying to carry out what Pep is asking. I read that was the worst home defeat in Steua's history so that gives some measure of what a special night it was.

Things will get tougher but if the great attitude of the players is maintained, who knows what can be achieved :-)
 
I was actually at the Etihad last night, Emptihad more like, absolutely no fans there, none of our players turned up and Pep was anonymous. Disgraceful.

If that wasn't bad enough, there was a security guy being an arsehole and trying to escort me from the premises.
 
Great game against pretty weak opposition.
Wild defending gifting us two penalties. It was a sight to remember, captain Zaba slipping it through to Kolarov in the box. Sterling was amazing: won another penalty, that chop and pass to Silva who finished nicely, the set-up for Agüero too. Nolito was lively, sweet goal from an unreal pass KDB, and played a big part in the beautiful 4th. Still some trouble with the sweeper keeper, to be expected, but everyone played really well passing and pressing fantastically. A rarity to see him miss two pens, but for the pure quality of the hat-trick gotta give Sergio motm.
Perfect football at times, a joy to watch.
 
Kolarov confuses me. Often in recent times, his performances make it seem like he really doesn't give a shit. Yet currently he is the guy trying to get the whole team to celebrate each goal together. So it seems he does care after all! I don't know what the future holds for him, but it's nice to see everyone trying their hardest to impress/adapt.

I think this is down to Pellers - that man demotivated the entire team. No one was enthusiastic on the pitch for months towards the end of last season.
 
Amid all the talk of how the players are adapting to Pep, how far the "Pep revolution" has gone and what tactical changes he will introduce there is a tendency to forget that there is a here and now and that the team is playing matches which really matter, while pundits are trying to tell us what Pep's long term aims are and how "far along the road we are". So, analysts are obsessed with how good Steua are and whether last night was any kind of guide as to City's standing world football.

None of this interests me. What actually matters to me is Pep's desire to play the kind of football which makes fans happy and then see who wins the trophies next May, which is what he, himself, promised. I thoroughly enjoyed City's performance last night and it was most certainly the kind of football which made me very happy indeed. If any other English team had given a display like that in Europe - or if any of the European "giants" had - no-one would piddle about with questions about the quality of the opposition: there would be nothing other than eulogies of the winning team.

So, well done Pep, well played City. Last night you gave me everything I hoped for - and more.
 
That was really pleasing on the eye and very clinical. That will give a humungous boost to all the players and that's another big brucie bonus. No one, especially Pep will get carried away though as Bucharest played kamikaze football against very skillful players.

As I said. Great to watch, reinforced the methodology and increased confidence.

Nolito, Merlin, Kun & Sterling will become unplayable - Great times ahead
