Tbh I think City would be far more accommodating with him being a no.2 keeper. Honestly, if you’re to treat players as human beings, like City do, I think you have to recognise when a player who barely plays has an opportunity of a lifetime. Just think it’s totally different with reserve keepers. They might be the only players in a squad that are actually doing their club a favour, by being happy to just play the odd cup game. This move can even get him national team caps. I don’t think it would take more than £25m to sign him. That’s £25m pure profit on our books too. £50m is fanciful. He’s 30 and a no.2 keeper. That limits the price a lot.

Can’t agree with this. I get that he‘s number 2 but this is Bayern Munich we’re talking about. Self confessed, ‘footballing royalty’. If they want to buy a keeper from City, who’s going to be their number 1, they should pay the going rate and that’s more than £25M..
City don’t owe the lad a thing. He knew he was coming as number 2, has won a shit load of stuff and has been handsomely rewarded.

I doubt we'll be giving Zack Steffen another chance after what happened against Liverpool.

I fear we might end up too deep into the transfer window to do too much about it.

Feels a bit of a short term hit, unless our scouting team have something on standby, which arguably they should.

Letting this guy go, does send a message to future number 2’s of where it can lead and should help to attract talent

Far too late in the window to let this happen. I can understand why ortega might be interested if indeed he is, number 1 until neuer is back and even though they'll almost certainly bring in a new number 1 next summer, ortega will probably back himself to at least be in with a shot of being number 1 for the best team in his home country.

We can't always put the players needs first though, were not a charity, club first on this one. There's not enough time to find a proper replacement now, tell Bayern £40 million to start talking or fuck off.
