Stephen Ireland

Reports in Irish papers that trap is gonna rip into him tomorrow in a press conference, should be interesting.

I seriously doubt that a man of Trapattoni's class and stature in World football would come out and verbally abuse a player.. In the press conference today i'm sure he will wish him all the best with his career and close the door on the subject for once and for all. I dont understand where Stevie is coming from, but Stevie needs to move on from this and not talk about it in the media again. I know Trapattoni will never want to talk about him again....

I seriously would have doubted that a player of 23 years would have turned down, spat on, stamped on and put himself above a chance to play international football in a world cup like it was some sort of commoner disease, something he clearly thinks he's too good for, but here we are.

When a 20odd year old has the nerve to call a man who has dedicated nearly all his life to football, and achieved what he has, arrogant, I think he deserves all he's got coming. He is just so full of delusions of his ability and clearly is much too caught up in the fantasy world he's living in, so much too busy to come and play with a team beneath him, instead he feels his time is better spent running up and down steps and driving around in his personalised fancy car with superman logo on it, just reminding us all, in case we forgot where he showed us all his personalised shorts, that he is infact superman, because of course we all know that's what he thinks of himself.

I hope he rips into him, the cheek of that brat, the way he talks. Who does he think he is? He's done nothing to earn anyones respect yet the way he talks, the way he talks down, insults, legends of the game, so freely, why because Fergie didn't pay him enough attention and didn't let him on the starting team when he was just a young lad, wanting to send him on loan..sure what would he know about the game, or Trap had to answer a phone call..well how dare they. Clearly the one thing he hasn't learned at City, from running up and down those steps, is respect, because if he had stayed at United, whatever you say about them, or Fergie, there's not a chance in hell he would have been allowed talk or act like that when it came to legends of the game, he would have gotten an earful.

And you think he'll wish him all the best, well if he does he's a lot better man then the rest of us, but we're talking about someone who'd insult people who have forgotten more things about football then he has ever known, just because he felt that they weren't giving him their undivided attention..

Someone who is so arrogant to not leave Irish journos into the press conference, not just too good for us on the field, too good for us off it now. How does he manage to control himself playing with Shay, must probably insist he gets changed in another dressing room.

Just cut all ties lad, you'll never be welcomed back here, not next week, next year..and not when you're 33 years old, off form, and wanting to join in on our WC squad, he'll simply be told, just like Best was, in the kindest way possibly, to fuck off.

If it wasn't clear before, it's blatantly clear now, that Ireland is nothing but a spoilt brat, only interested in himself, most players would cut off your hand at playing international football, but not this character..it's now blatantly obvious that he thinks he's much too good for this team.

Arrogant little fecker and he's the nerve to call Trap arrogant..

He'll never be welcomed back..ever. We're a pretty forgiving bunch, we're not the most talented team out there by any means, our passion and our work rate gets us through.
We've pretty forgiving fans, who never boo their own, unlike English fans, it's just 100% backing all the time, fans who give no hastle.
He is the exception. He'll never be welcomed back and never forgiven.
One day the brat will come tumbling down from his fantasy land and he'll regret his decision. By then it'll be too late.

You talk about Stephen Ireland's arrogance yet you have the arrogance to assume you speak on behalf of an entire nation in saying Ireland would not be welcomed back??? You are a twat of the highest order, why are you even on a city forum? Shouldn't you be sucking off wayne rooney somehwere?

I, and every football fan I know, would have Ireland back in the irish squad in an instant so stop acting like your speaking on behalf of every irish football fan....in fact remove the irish part from your user name, you're giving the rest of us a bad name

Mate, you're commenting on things you have no idea about. There's a good chance that he's spot on about Trap's motives for contacting him. He's an emotional lad, and frankly, it is no secret that there are people in the squad and at the FAI who have done him all sorts of wrong.

This is the second time you've unleashed a bunch of vitriol about Stevie and both times you've commented on the car he drives, and the amount of money he ears. It shows the same lack of class that you're accusing a City player of.

To attack a young man who has been an absolute credit to Manchester City, and who is one of the most talented players this club has ever produced, suggests to me that you're far more interested in international football than you are in the club you support. I can't imagine ever slating a player for not wanting to play for their international team. It's any man's perogative and frankly the FAI are famous for their shocking ineptitude. They spent a long time treating Stevie like a twat. Long before he left the international fold. In his shoes the vast majority of us would fuck it off...

BTW, in the tit for tat world of sleazy journalism, it would hardly be a conspiracy theory for me to suggest that Irish journalist's being banned from Stevie's media sit down, and the "Today we will get a better idea if City can win anything with c***s" comment which appeared in the Irish Independent.

I need someone to shed some light on what exactly Stephen Ireland is doing? I am new to this site, but been a city fan all my life and I'm English, not Irish, but for the life of me I cant understand where he is coming from. Trapatoni is one of the most decorated coaches in world football. He's won a European cup, 7 Seri A titles, he's won the german, portugesse and Austrian leagues, and if I remember correctly managed Italy in 2002 world cup and they were robbed in the quarter final by South Korea, a series of terrible refereeing decisions, obviously swayed by a home town crowd. When you think that Germany got to that final, that was missed opportunity for Italy which Trapatoni could do nothing about

Sorry for going off on a tangent here, but Italy were not robbed. That is just a myth made by the Italian media, which has spread around Europe. I've seen that game, watched many other videos on it, and Italy only had themselves to blame. Vieri missed 2 golden chances. Totti's penalty claim, was not a penalty, look at the replays, and you can see the Korean defender gets his boot to the ball. The offside call was 50/50, sometimes they're given, others they're not, you see those decisions made all the time in football. Italy were just bad losers after that game. When people talk about that game, its always "Italy were robbed" and this is not the case, people just like to spout off what they hear from others, I bet half those people never even saw the game, and just go with the flow whenever it is brought up.

Agreed also one of footballs great upsets, I believe thats one if the fascinations. Unfortunately we are globally "fascinated" by the Prem big four now, so we r not allowed little upsets like Wengers position being under threat, or Italy being knocked out of World Cups.

Back to the thread Ireland should play for his country, I feel uncomfortable with the lads stance, I thought Carragher was a complete C*** for his feelings, you would not want these pricks next to you when going to war.

Really good response.

I'm Irish and I'd be delighted if Ireland came back and I respect his decision not to. I guess I believe everyone has the right to make their own path in life. What the Irish people think is irrelevant in this case.
